2009 Ford Mustang

In 2004, Ford celebrated the Mustang’s 40th birthday by bringing out the popular V6 Mustang, a powerful GT Mustang, and of course, the jaw-dropping Cobra Mustang. Five years later is 2009, and Ford has some innovative technology to throw into the S-197 platform!

Inside, the popular “My Color” instrument cluster is more than likely not going to make a second appearance in the 2009 model Ford Mustangs. The feature is to complex and more trouble to Ford than the market made worth, but exterior enhancements should make up for a more bland interior.

Outside, Ford will bring out even sharper body lines and styling that is more true to the 1960s and 1970s. Rumors have a notchback making a reappearance in the 2009 model Ford Mustang as well.

Many Ford Mustang enthusiasts are old school muscle car lovers who reject innovative technology in the simple, powerful, and stylish Mustang, but the technology age and new wave of consumers will love the 2009 model Mustangs. Remaining on the same S-197 platform, the 45th Anniversary edition Mustangs will have minor chassis modifications but major body modifications over the 2005-2008 models, but what about the ever-changing powertrain?

To power the 2009 Ford Mustang GT, Ford will either stick with the current 4.6L 3-valve V8 engine, or upgrade to the 4.6L 4-valve V8 and possibly the 5.4L 4-vavle V8 engine. With the growing fuel crunch, how is ford supposed to market a larger and more powerful powertrain?

Ford will go with DOD (Displacement on Demand) technology, an innovation that, at cruise rpms, can shut down 4 of the 8 cylinders to drastically improve fuel economy, but at higher rpms, the computer will throw the car back into power mode! Overall horsepower is again expected to be at or above the 300 mark, and wouldn’t it be nice to have 300 horsepower at 30+mpg?

Will the Ford Mustang live through the aggressive competition being designed by GM and Dodge? From the 1970s, the Mustang headlined in its class, but with a revived Chevrolet Camaro and an all-new Dodge Challenger set for production in 2009, the old Pony Car rivalry will be back in full force!

The 2009 Ford Mustang will be available in Summer 2008 with a V6 and GT model planned, and Ford SVT (Special Vehicles Team) may come forth with a 2009 Ford Mustang Cobra, an all-new cobra aside from the Carroll Shelby collaborated model.
