MRKsD3: The V6 wins…….say what?!?

That’s right, July’s ROTM winner is MRKsD3, aka Marks Torch Red. Mark’s victory with his 2004 3.9L V6, is the first time a sixxer has won ROTM since June of 2009, when Zatrekaz took the prize. He was just excited to be nominated, but was both shocked and honored to have won and gives all the other cars tons of credit. Before he acquired the Mustang, Mark was the owner of a 1983 BMW 318i. He bought his Mustang in March of 2005 as his daily driver and six years later, it has 98k miles.

Since this is his daily, Mark has kept his mods simple, yet appealing. It has Eibach springs, staggered 18″ black Saleens, MAC intake and a 91 octane tune. To finish it off, he’s added a GT rear bumper with black letter inserts to compliment the flowmaster 40 dual exhaust and GT side scoops. Up front, a Mach 1 chin spoiler and grille delete with both HID fog and headlights.

Mark didn’t think he had a chance running in ROTM with all the modded and blown V8′s, but all the sixxers got together to put him on top in order to get the win . Currently, Mark is focusing on other things in his life right now, but will slowly work toward the modifications he has planned for his car in the future. This is just the start for Mark’s D3 New Edge and is your July 2011 ROTM.

Being the Mustang enthusiast that I am, I was naturally taken aback when I learned that our very own NastyFX4 (formerly Nastystang113) no longer owns the Mustang that won Ride of the Month for June 2011. According to Nasty, he needed something a little more comfortable and practical as a daily ride and went with a pickup truck (at least it was a Ford!). We can’t blame him there, can we? Well, sure we can, but I won’t because this ROTM has given me personally tons of inspiration and cold chills..!

This Ford-powered and Roush-infused S197 terrorized not only the palm-lined streets of Central Florida, but also its 1/4 mile and road course, as well. This 2008 GT sits with a lowered stance courtesy of Steeda sport springs over Tokico D-spec struts and GT500 strut mounts. This incorporates improved handling, thanks to a BMR adjustable panhard bar, billet lower control arms and welded relocation brackets. The suspension upgrades also include Steeda front and rear sway bars along with an adjustable upper control arm with bracket. Adding more rigidity and support for the front suspension and driveline, is a CHE K-Member brace with Torque Limiters. This capable chassis sits on staggered American Racing Rogue wheels with 20×8.5 up front covered in 255/35 and 20×10 rears wrapped in Nitto NT05 315/35′s. Behind these stunning polished rim/black wheels are G2 painted calipers.

Adding to the intimidating posture is a Kaenen 3” cowl hood hanging over tinted HID headlights. You will see a Roush P51 grille pancaked between a Roush front fascia and chin spoiler with an intercooler peaking out menacingly from behind. Rounding out the Roush style, sits a rear spoiler above tinted OEM-style taillights and a pair of custom Nazty GT emblems added to the fenders. Nasty was bold with the tint shade by going 5% sides and rear, while 35% on the front windshield. This creates an illusion of the glass practically melting right into the body… seamlessly!

Beneath that gorgeous cowl hood is another Roush piece and perhaps the most important one of them, a Eaton-designed Roush TVS 2300 roots-style supercharger. The supercharger was tuned by Justin at VMP Tuning complete with a VMP pulley at 11 pounds of boost providing near-instantaneous torque at the drop of the foot.

The TVS is accompanied by a GT500 fuel system. This blown induction needs some cooling which comes from an aluminum AFCO heat exchanger. With the demands of high-horsepower engines, it becomes necessary for a reliable aftermarket clutch. Thus, a McLeod RST twin-disc clutch was installed, capable of handling up to 800 horsepower. For this mustang to create such symphonic V8 tunes, a Magnaflow off-road X-pipe was installed along with a Magnaflow catback. Inside, you’ll find plush leather seating, a Pioneer AVIC-Z3 sound system and Boston Acoustic S85 speakers to comfortably enjoy your favorite music in stunningly clear natural sound.

There is just so much more to see everywhere you look. For instance, you will find the Speed of Sound cup holder switch panel and A-Pillar gauge to compliment the OD and Autometer Sport Comp II boost gauge. Included on the gauge accessories, is a Raptor shift light and Dynojet Wideband Commander to monitor the air to fuel ratio at all times. All of this ignition, combustion and growling is started with the push of a button. This being an S2000 start button and is plugged into the center adaptor where ages ago a cigarette lighter may have once existed. Above this button, you will find the Homelink mirror capable of dimming rear view headlights along with opening your garage door and other accessories. Saving the inconvenience of multiple remotes laying around on the dash.

Custom Lighted Sill Plates add a little ambient lighting to the cockpit to set the mood.

Now for all the gear-bangin’ fun you can have with such an amazing Mustang, an MGW Short Throw Shifter! But alas, none of this can be set in motion until you slam the throttle with a set of Steeda pedals.

Perhaps most impressive of all, Nasty has done all of this ROTM winners work himself, save for the tuning and tire work. While Nasty is no longer a Ford Mustang owner, he has made himself an integral part of why Modded Mustangs succeeds and continues to stay aboard to leave his mark on the forums. This is The Modded Mustangs June 2011 Ride of the Month and Nasty has obviously earned the title. A car capable of inducing goosebumps, it’s ‘Stangs like this that fuel our inspiration for continuing to build our own Mustangs. Congrats, NastyFX4!

It is just about everybody’s desire to have a street legal race car. A car that breathes fire and tears it up at the track, yet is beautiful to look at and has nice street manners. Folks, there just aren’t many cars on the street more pleasing to look at than a ‘69 Mach-1.

1969 being the first production year of the Mach-1, they are some of the most sought after classic Mustangs. When a classic car is mentioned nowadays, some people tend to think of heavy and slow gas guzzlers that take months getting up to speed. In the case of Craig’s ’69 Fast Back… this is no issue at all. The “old and slow” stereotype comes to an abrupt halt with the twist of a key that brings the Cammed 408c.i.d. Windsor to life.

Craig has worked the F4TE 351 Windsor block from top to bottom. Forged I-Beam connecting rods, Probe Industries forged pistons, Melling oil pump and 7qt Moroso oil pan, ATI SFI Balancer, custom ground camshaft and ARP fasteners holding everything together. To help fill all of those cubic inches with air, the ‘69 Mach-1 has been fitted with custom ported Twisted Wedge heads and ported Victor Jr intake manifold flowed by Lynn Morris.

To get those ponies on the ground and turn all that power into forward motion, this ’69 is equipped with a PA Supercomp C-4 transmission with Trans-Brake and Neal Chance torque converter with 4800 RPM Stall. Out back sits a Ford 9” axle with 3.73 gears and a good ol’ Detroit Locker. To keep the occupants safe and stiffen up things a bit, an 8 point chromoly cage and custom subframe connectors are in place. Disc brakes in the front help the beast come to a halt at the end of the day.

The color on this Mach-1 is sometimes mistaken for that of OEM Ford factory specified blue. However; the Viper Blue looks glorious with the OE Flat Black Hood and Chin Spoiler. Every inch of undercarriage on this ‘69 Mach-1 has been beautifully restored and all new Original Equipment chrome parts have been refitted. When 69FastBack is in the mood to tear up the track, Weld Prostars and 28X10.5 ET Drags are in order. For the cruise nights… a set of Magnum 500 wheels are fitted to complete the look.

How does this gorgeous machine perform, you ask? Mach-1 has only been dyno’d once and with the previous Toploader 4 speed transmission. Unfortunately, it was having ignition problems and plagued with fouling plugs. The 408W was still able to shed out 435whp and 429lb/ft of torque on 91 Octane pump gas. These numbers translate to a 10.71 quarter mile at 122mph. Hopefully Craig is planning to get more out of his engine and will hopefully keep us posted.

Craig has brought a true American Icon from the past to the present. It is an honor to have such a gorgeous Modded Muscle Mustang in our forum. and overload all of your senses. These are the reasons that make 69FastBack our April 2011 Ride of The Month.

The name “Swervo” has been on many front pages including this one twice. However those articles were for Swervo’s former car, a 2004 twin turboed Mach 1 Turned N/A Mach 1. Swervo was having issues getting his beastly Mach 1 to pass emissions so he began de-modding it. After the turbo’s were gone and many sensors replaced he decided to let Ford fix it.

The day he was going to pick up His old Mach 1 he decided he wanted to see what all the hub-ub was about with this new 5.0 Ford is making. It was love at first drive, Swervo traded in his mach that day (Which sold 3 days later) for a brand new 2011 grabber blue Mustang GT. Originally Swervo wasn’t planning to do many mods and was content with 5.0′s stock output. However after a few months the mod bug bit again. It started with a Bassani cat back, then he painted the stock rims and deck lid black and tinted the tail lights. Soon he couldn’t help himself and the mods started flying.

His Current Mod list, Although not as long as the Mach (yet) Is quite extensive: Bassani long tube headers, x-pipe and 3″ exhaust, Boss intake manifold, JLT CAI, BBR tune, FRPP K springs, Koni STR T dampeners, BMR adj panhard bar, Maximum Motorsports CC plates, Steeda strut tower brace, Forgestar matte black F14s 20×9/20×11, Nitto Invo tires 275/35/20- 315/35/20, Roush billet grill, California Special front valence, Boss front splitter.

“I’d like to give a shout out to my buddy Ira (currently deployed to Afghanistan) for egging me on to buy the 5.0 and helping me install a lot of these parts. My club in NC WOT Mustangs and my new club Rebel Stangs in San Diego for supporting me in my stang addiction. Lastly I’d like to thank all my friends in the Military for their service and sacrifice for our country.” -Swervo

The staff of Moddedmustangs.com congratulates Swervo for winning the May ride of the month contest.

So how do you go from a canary yellow 94′ Mustang GT to a turbocharged all black 1997 Cobra? This is just what 01Sportchic did to win the March Rotm contest from Moddedmustangs.com by three votes. First of all you need connections, like Jake (a great boyfriend) who owns his own shop. Next you would need an abused mismatched Cobra that an owner wants to bail out on cheap at said shop. Lastly you need that love at first site moment, Danielle (01Sportchic) was looking at this then supercharged car with dull paint and mismatched Cobra R parts on it when she told her boyfriend “Man, poor car! If I owned it, it would be so clean all the time”.

A few weeks later the owner was looking to move to move the car. This was great! But in order to afford the car Danielle would have to sell most of the performance mods and basically return it to stock. After purchasing the car and starting the de-modding process Danielle realized the car had an iron block instead of the aluminum block that Cobra’s from that year come with. Come to find out the engine had been blown and one of the previous owners had cheaply patched the Cobra with the short block from a 03 GT.

This car which has been a daily driver since Danielle bought it in 07 has come a long way since then. A full UPR Suspension with KYB shocks and struts and Steeda C/C plates help plant the 460 wheel horsepower and 480 lbs of torque produced by the 10 psi of air being forced into the engine via the precision 61mm turbo and Power by the Hour custom turbo Kit. A pretty beefy fuel system was needed for the E85 fuel that Danielle wanted to use so 80lb injectors and a 255 Walbro In tank and inline pump were needed along with custom high flow fuel rails.

After removing the Cobra R parts Danielle went with a Saleen Spoiler and replica 03 Cobra wheels painted black along with JDM style headlights with black housings. As well as a cabinet full of detailing supplies Danielle has, with the help of her awesome boyfriend returned the car to its former glory.

February was a record setting ride of the month for Modded Mustangs. One of the big reasons for this record setting month was Tinkerbell’s meticulously modified and cared for 2003 Mustang GT. The car was purchased in 2005 to prevent a divorce, the then husband knowing she had always wanted a Mustang was hoping to keep her around with the car. However Tink made every payment falling madly in love with the Mustang and eventually getting the divorce to be with her true love.

Tinkerbell began modifying her car, vinyls and graphics were added. Some of the easier do-it-yourself mods were done. Until one fateful day Tink was on the way home from work when her car was T-Boned by another vehicle. Tink was devastated, until she realized that she would be getting an all new paint job and all her vinyls and graphics would now be clean smooth painted on applications.

Now you may be thinking, “Yes this is a clean car, and yes those are some shiny black chrome FR500′s, but how did this car help set an MM ROTM record?” thankfully I have an answer for you! This would be because Tink didn’t stop with the paint and suspension or the wheels and performance. Tink went all out, this car is the purest definition of a completely modified Mustang. From the inside out, this is entirely Tinkerbells Mustang.

Everything in this car has been touched; Bezel’s, knobs, handles, levers, cup holders, vents. I would challenge you find something on this car that has not been modified. How much is too much? I don’t know and that’s the beauty of this car. Because Tinkerbell isn’t through yet. At this time she is working out the final stages of her nitrous install.

Tink still has many plans for her GT, things like drilled slotted rotors, a big brake upgrade and of course a supercharger. For now though, the way a man’s chin drops to the oil pan when he rev’s his engine next to her at a stop light and see’s her face as she rolls her tinted window down, is enough to tell her she’s doing something right. I would have to Agree. Tinkerbell, From Modded Mustangs, Congratulations on winning February’s ROTM.

“I love it here. Everyone has made me feel welcome from the day that I posted my introduction thread. I consider a lot of you guys like my second family “ ~ Tinkerbell_too

November’s ROTM brought out a stiff field of competition, but one stood taller than the rest. That car was a vert that has been converted into anything but your average Cobra. M.P. Cobra Fan has shown that he has spared no expense and overlooked no details when it came to putting together his 2001 mineral gray Mustang Cobra. Let me paint a mental picture for you, and for those of you that lack imagination, M.P. was kind enough to supply us with some eye candy as well.

Close your eyes and imagine a car that looks like it was so effortlessly put together, that every detail was so carefully and meticulously chosen that even the manufacturer is jealous. This was a look that was not put together for any one particular feature to have shock value, but for the portrait to come together seamlessly as a whole. Imagine the sleek new edge body lines smothered in flawless mineral gray paint reminiscent more of a mirror then a car. Then you take all of that sex, pull the spoiler, paint the windshield frame, add tinted head and tail lamps and windows, Kaenen Hood, Termi chin and side skirts, and custom paint a few odds and ends. Then you slap an Eibach pro kit, and stick a pair of shiny black Saleens underneath and what you have is a masterpiece that has twice been voted second to none.

M.P. bought his car in August of 2007, and coincidentally caught the mod bug shortly after. He bought it because he had wanted one since High School, and the way the new edge body lines flowed projected a sleek and mean look he had instantly loved. It was also a look that based on his modifications he felt could be improved upon. Since then the Cobra has seen a few different configurations, each one bringing us closer to the car we voted supreme.
His favorite part about owning his car is when people look at it and try to figure out why it looks so different from a regular Mustang. He also really likes when parents of little kids tell him that their kid just loves his car. Oddly enough one of the things he loves the most about his Cobra is also the thing he dislikes the most, and that is that fact that it is a convertible. He loves the openness of driving with the top down, but dislikes how it limits him as far as track use, therefore he has designated his car for mall cruising and if you look in his garage you will see his quarter mile time is determined based on the speed of traffic.

M.P. Cobra Fan has another sickness as well, and if you frequent a certain sub forum you would know that this is detailing. This illness has very few treatment options other than spending money and spending hours in the garage cleaning nooks and crannies that the average person is not even aware exists. It is obvious that M.P. takes a lot of pride in his car, and when asked about whether he was excited about winning, he said, “I was really excited to win. My car was built for me and my tastes, but whenever someone compliments me or likes the car enough to vote for it in something like this is brings a little of that pride out.”

Now you would think that after winning ROTM twice with this beautiful Cobra, it would be about perfect and he would be finished with it. Not so much! I was informed in a private message that since he had recently picked up a daily driver and the Cobra was relinquished to the Daily Driver retirement home in Naples, that now, the heavy modifications will start. He plans to do a complete rear end build, forced induction, and a few other odds and ends that have been in the plans for a while. I have only one thing to say to that, Subscribed!

Congratulations to M.P. Cobra Fan from Modded Mustangs for winning your 2nd ROTM.

October’s ROTM brought us a car that has been built for bracket racing. Casper GT’s 2000 Mustang GT has been meticulously modified for drag strip reliability. Now before you start thinking of a big loping cam or the sound of a spooling turbo let me point out that the cam covers on this GT have never even been off.

Casper has built this car from the ground up, focusing more on getting the power he already has to ground instead of wasting rubber with useless hp. For the steady racer an automatic transmission is a must. Casper’s 4r70w transmission has been modified to give him that hard, neck snapping launch on every pass. With a valve body from an 02 GT, Trans-Go HD2 shift kit (with extensive upgrades), 10″ 3800 stall Dirty Dog converter, FRPP cooler and finally a FRPP aluminum driveshaft tie’s into his stock rear end with FRPP 4.10’s.

To handle the abuse of the strip Casper put in a CHE axle brace with custom relocated lowers and CHE spherical adjustable uppers. He also added a set of Strange 10 way shocks and deleted both the front and rear sway bar while retaining the stock springs. A difference between his and most other drag cars would probably the one airbag on the right side.

Now obviously you can’t have a race car without at least a few go fast parts. Casper’s bolt on mod’s include: Trickflow plenum, 70mm FRPP throttle body, Accel coils, 19lb EV-6 injectors, Autolite 103 plugs, Reishe performance 170* thermostat, March underdrive pulleys with SFI balancer, Stewart water pump, Airaid cold air kit, FRPP shorty headers, BBK o/r/h and a Flowmaster 2 chamber cat back. He also deleted the EGR, The A/C and the cruise control. This, with the MSD 2 step, SLP line lock and the high speed cooling fan mod sums up the performance mods.

Finally He had to make it look good. He accomplished this using the HO Fibertrends 2.5 cowl hood, Mach grill delete and chin spoiler, 01 headlights, 03-04 Cobra sideskirts and he finished it off by deleting the fog lights and rear spoiler. Like any serious drag racer Casper has two sets of rims, his bullets for street use and then his drag rims which are Centerline Telstars with a 15×4’s up front wrapped in 165/80r’s and 15×8’s in the rear wrapped in 275/50r Mickey Thompson ET Street radials.

Congratulations from Modded Mustangs to Casper GT for this ROTM.

MM Screen Name: R3dfyre02

Name and Rank: Michael J Schollian E-5 (Sgt)

Years/Months in the Service: June 94 – September 04

MM: What made you want to join the military?

R3dfyre02: I joined because when I was a kid I always listened to my grandpa telling about his time on the USN Lafayette. His stories always interested me so much. The Military was a easy way for me to get out of my hometown of Ontario Oregon. Growing up my family life was something less than desirable. I knew if I didn’t get out of the area completely then I would never become anything. When certain teachers in my High School heard I was thinking about joining the US Marines I was told point blank, “Don’t try it Mike, you will never make it.” Well that right there made me decide that I was either going Marines or not at all.

MM: What did you like most about it?

R3dfyre02: Out of all the things I did in the Marines I liked the travelling the most. I mean seriously how else is a 20 year old going to go out and see 28 different countries before he turns 21? all the sights, smells (OK, some of the smells really sucked. ever had a camel blow its nose on you from 10 feet away?), and the food, I loved the foods.

MM: Biggest dislike?

R3dfyre02: Trying to think what I really didn’t like, sure there was the random petty things, cleaning the barracks top to bottom every Thursday, picking up trash outside the barracks which include cigarette butts when I don’t smoke, random screaming sessions from the First Sergent, but is there really any one thing that stands out? not really.

MM: Best Memory?

R3dfyre02: My best memory? wow, there were so many. Do I mention when one of my PFC’s got on the back of some poor Iraqi’s cow and rode it down the main path of some little no name village after we evicted the bad guys? or home comings? those were great. gone for 6 months or more and stepping off a plane and being attacked by little kids screaming DADDY!!! or just chilling in the barracks drinking beer with my friends. There were so many good times. but I guess the best would have to be the camaraderie. The feeling of belonging.

MM: Can you tell us about one person in the service who has affected your life most?

R3dfyre02: Sgt Joseph J. Mach was the biggest influence n me. When I first got promoted to NCO he took me under his wing so to speak and taught me how to be a leader. Showed me how to earn respect from my Marines rather than pin on my stripes and demand it. He taught me about the carrot and the stick.

MM Screen Name: Graystang01

Name & Rank: Aaron White E3

Years/Months in the Service: 1 Yr 4 months

MM: What made you want to join the military?

Graystang01: I had always wanted to join the military but was encouraged by my family to go to college. I went for a year and my scholarship got pulled. After that, it was either join the military or work in a factory making next to nothing.

MM: What do you like most about it?

Graystang01: The camaraderie. I never had friends back home like the ones I have now.

MM: Biggest dislike?

Graystang01: All the tech school BS. If one kid in the squadron messes up, the entire squadron gets punished. I understand the reasoning behind it but if I’ve never seen that kid before, how am I really supposed to do anything about it?

MM: Best Memory?

Graystang01: I’ve had so much fun in tech school it’s hard to narrow it down. I did meet a pimp a few months ago

MM: Can you tell us about one person in the service who has affected your life most?

Graystang01: It would have to be my dad. He served 4 years in the Marines. He tells me all the time he wishes he had stayed in and encourages me to make the Air Force a career. I would have never joined had it not been for him.

Andrewa: I get to go places, meet people and do things that not everybody can. You work with professionalls and see some cool shit.

MM: Biggest dislike?

MM: Can you tell us about one person in the service who has affected your life most?

Drick: I had a Chief at my first squadron that would do anything for me and I mean anything. He had to bail me outta jail one time. Well he didn’t have to but he did. And he never held it against me. Good guy to talk to also. He probably doesnt know how much I respect him for everything he did for me and but the least I could do was shake his hand and thank him upon checking out of the squadron.
