In an effort to increase new car sales amid a surge in gas prices, Ford has boosted incentives and rebates for nearly all vehicles purchased, including the Ford Mustang V6. Between June 1st and July 31st of this year eligible vehicles will recieve free gas for the rest of the year. Ford calls this the “Drive On Us” program. Buyers can take a $1,000 rebate in lieu of the gas card, and may also qualify for zero percent financing.
This new, and unique, incentive comes in the wake of high prices at the pump and a similar incentive from General Motors. Last week GM offered residents of California and Florida a guaranteed $1.99 / gallon of gasoline for the rest of the year. This offer is open for select automobiles purchased by July 5th.
Both GM and Ford have been trying to cut back on incentive spending this year after disappointing financial results this year, but it’s pretty common for automakers to offer new incentives in the summer to make room for the next year models which usually hit the showroom around fall.
Note that, unfortunately, the only vehicles exluded from this promotion are the Ford Mustang GT and the Ford GT. Modded Mustangs assumes this also includes the Shelby GT500, Saleen, Roush, California Special, and other special edition Mustangs with the V8 engine. I suppose the latest commercials depicting a father and son doing some high spirited driving in a GT isn’t inspiring much of a light foot.
