hears what you do if you want to keep it cheap and keep that 4cyl.
get a cold air intake mount it in the fender well get a set of 36lbs injectors a ranger roller cam, new underdrive pullys, new gears 5 speed tranny with those simple modification you can get about 150hp or if you want to more technical add a holset or garret turbo which would give you around 390hp or a simple 5.0 swap and have 225hp

Define fast. You could have a very quick car but putting a good dose of money into your suspension. Sure, you'll still take a bit to get to 60, but you'll be damn quick on a canyon run.
If you want acceleration, the first thing I'd suggest lightening the car as much as possible. If it doesn't need to be in the car, ditch it. If you want to keep the 2.3L, look up Esslinger Racing. They specialize in 4 cylinder Fords, and you can make a decent amount of power if you're willing to spend the money. But, realistically, for stoplight-to-stoplight action, which I assume is what you mean when you say "fast", the best way will be to swap in a 5.0.

You can buy a used 01-04 v6 for less $$$ then it would take to do all those mods and get better hp/tq numbers. |
