New fox body.
Hey all. Im new to the whole forums and mustang world.
I just got my first mustang. Its an 87 foxbody with a 2.3l. Plainjane boring. Im building the 2.3 tho im not gonna swap in a 5.0... bought it cheap as hell $200 bucks for the car but the tranny is screwed and it has a blown head gasket... The plans to pull the engine and tranny repaint the car, rebuild the motor, get a diffrent tranny and there we go.... So questions i have.... 1. Good place to get a rebuild kit for a 2.3l? 2. good lowbuck mods for the motor- under $500 for all..... for now. 3. Tranny---- Go back with a AOD or whats a diffrent tranny i can use.. I hear the AOD blows... so id like other options... 4. Swapping in a manual tranny- whats involved. im sure ill get more questions. |

go for a t5 the 4 banger has the a4ld which is even worse then the aod. t-5 swap is actually very easy on these cars i know you need the clutch and peddle assemble and a few other things they sell complete swap kits i saw on on CL for 600 bucks.

you should get a 2.5 crank and rods,port and polish heads and intake.The AOD is a killer trans when done right and it can handle 4 digit HP but they were not used in 4 cyl cars.
the trans your thinking of is the A4ld which sucks but can be built kinda strong but costs way to much.there is one last option using a c4 3 speed auto which can be built almost as strong as an AOD.
