5.0's can be pretty damn fast when modded right, i guess like anything. I don't know why everyone say's 5.0's are so slow.

Well, they are stock. 220hp from a 5 liter engine is pitiful compared to what modern engines put out.

Now, put a modern HCI combo on there, and it's a different story.

It's also only available as a crate motor, and IIRC, it's something along the lines of $10k from Ford.

$10k can build you one heck of a 5.0 or 351, you could do a Termie swap + mods if you want DOHC, you could get a brand new crate Ford big-block, or you could even do an LSx swap if you're into the whole bastard halfbreed thing.

The Cammer is cool, but I'd argue not worth the price considering all the other options.

WTF? isn't gas going out of sight on your side of the country?
my 1984 2.3 turbovert has been GPS verified 110 mph and I am driving it 50 miles to work everyday rain or shine you are making a big mistake stuffing that boat anchor in there. you are still gonna get you ass handed to you by every big block mopar you ever run up against big block anything for that matter. and you can't pass smog or get stickers. you are on a dumb road change now before it is too late. there is a 5.0 convertible for a 1000 bucks out here don't need to do nothing just drive it. but you already made the dummy move and on a hardtop to boot. good luck you are going to need it because you are not going to get far on good decisions.

Dude there's no need to be an asshole because someone is doing a 2.3 to 5.0 swap. You don't know his reasoning, although its probably because he wants something fast. You'll get a bad rep pretty fast around here posting shit like that.

wow, i didn't even know this thread was still alive!
I acutally just got finished with the swap - motor is in, everything's running... just starting to go over everything and see if there are any problems I didn't detect while installing.

I don't know who that guy was that had something to say about my engine choice, but there were several reasons I chose the 5.0:

1. first motor swap, and it looked like one of the easier choices since the cars shipped with the motors to begin with. everything I got to do the swap was factory equipment

2. the amount of information. it was easy for me to get on the net and look stuff up as problems arose, it literally jumped out at me

3. resale value. people in my neck of the woods like the 5.0 badge and after I get this thing in good running shape I'm going to sell it and move on to something else

4. see above - I want this to learn how to work on the car from top to bottom - I just want to know how the car runs and know how to work on it. It's a hobby.

As for the gas prices here - I'm right next to the gulf and there are a ton of land drilling outfits throughout texas and louisiana, gas is probably cheaper here than most places in the country. And finally, as for the smog test (this just brings a smile to my face =D) I dont have to pass one! It's not required here. In fact all I have to do is flash the headlamps turns and brake lamps and I get a sticker! =P

Anyway, the reason I got back on here was to post that I have a ton of 2.3 parts that I'll let you guys have... literally. just pay shipping. pm me if your interested and we'll work out the details on how to get everything to you.

I had a 2.3 auto in a 84 coupe. That thing was slow and I wasted so much money trying to fix it. It was my first car. I wish I still had it. Would like to resto-mod it know. I'd love to find another.
