Tranny question

I am looking at doing the T5 tranny swap in my 67. I found a 5 speed out of a 88 ranger with a 2.3l engine. I was wondering if that 5 speed is the same as the one connected to a mustang 2.3l.

No, I was wondering in the 5 speed used in a 2.3l ranger was the same 5 speed used in the 2.3l mustang.

Well he sent me pics and they arent. The ranger 5 speed looks like it has the bellhousing molded to it, unlike the T5.

Ahhh, my specialty. Ok, Mustangs use a T5, and Rangers use a Mazda based M5OD light duty tranny. It is unrelated to a T5 and, that is a good thing. The bellhousing is part of the case, but if you can find one for a 300-6 or a 5.0 F-150, or a much more rare 3.8L supercoupe(all of these are a heavy duty version of the ranger tranny and have the 5.0 bellhousing), they are a better tranny. The Supercoupe is a tailhousing shifter, so it should work best. The M5OD is stronger, and if you check the oil fairly often, they'll run forever. T5's break teeth all the time. It's also a good idea, if you're running a high horse 2.3, to do a 5.0 tranny and clutch swap. Canfield industries make the best adapter plate.

Like mentioned above, different trans, but it's not hard to swap to a T5
