3:55's with a 2.3 yay or nay

hi, i picked up n 89lx 2.3 and was not sure of the stock rear gear ratio in these.
i have a 3:55 rear sitting here and wondered if i should put it in? it also is a 5 speed car.

also i pulled the motor to paint engine compartment and have the head redone due to loud ticking.
i was told that these motors hold up rather well in the mileage department, i have 160,000 miles on it, should i rebuild the bottom half or just buy a spare motor for 50 bucks if this one blows.

I have a 1990 auto, 4 cyl and mine has 3.73 gears. there is a tag on the rear end cover
usually at the top right side has a bunch of numbers on it it should say 7.3 or 8.8 others numbers then have the gear ratio on it .
If you rebuild the head and put it on the old block with old rings ,you are gonna blow the rings out , as redoing the head (valve job) will raise cylinder presure and the old rings will fail. what the guy did before i bought mine (it needs a rebuild)cause it to use alot of oil. hope this helps
