fwd 2.3 focus you mean, if yes, no they arent, they are completly different from the original 2.3's
the original ones are made in brazil and the Duratec/cosworth are made in europe

Rwd 2.3 is it's own animal, there was a similar vintage fwd 2.3, but no parts interchange. Which sucks, because the fwd 2.3L had the option of a DOHC head, and a DOHC 2.3L Turbo motor would be just flat unreal.

well in 1987 SVO was gonna do a DOHC for the 2.3 turbo fords but the plan was scratched for some reason but there is a volvo motor that is almost identical to the 2.3 ford and has a DOHC and what some SVO guys are doing is taking the heads off those cars and putting them on there 2.3 motors

Being Ford, their halo car needed to be a V8, not a 4-cylinder, and the DOHC Trubo 2.3L blew the 5.0 out of the water. So, scratch one DOHC head. As it is, SOHC 2.3L Turbo motors can fairly easily put down over 300hp, the block is good to something like 450. Esslinger built one to 900hp in a sandrail (I think that one was on the bottle )I have heard of the conversion of which you speak with the Volvo head. My understanding is the only "problem" you run in to is that the head flows the opposite direction as the ford head, so you have to run full custom intake and exhuast manifolds.
