hesitation
ok so i bought my kid a 88 2.3l drop top for 450.00. it is in rough shape, i was able to drive it home though. so we did the usual stuff. oil, plugs, wires, fuel filter, dropped the tank and put in new fuel(car sat for about a year). so it will start up and idle ok but when you go to give it gas too quick it will want to stall out. i got a fuel pressure test kit today and tested it at the fuel rail. it seems fine. i don't know what it is suppose to be but i got 40psi when i turned the key to on and a steady 33-34psi while running. so the pump seems like it would be fine, idk. what would be my next step? timing

Hi, Sand1303!
I hope you and your son enjoy the mustang! When you timed the motor, did you pull the spout plug first? If not, your distributor timing is very retarded. Typically, hesitation that you describe could be caused by vacuum leaks, or the engine's internal timing - (timing belt) may be off. I'd check the vacuum lines first. Also, disconnect the knock sensor and see if you get an improvement. I hope these things help! MD89stang |
