Go with an EFI Turbo engine. Carbed 2.3s have some potential, but they won't ever turn the rollers like a well tuned 2.3T. If you can, try to find an SVO Mustang engine(any of them are great) or an 87-88 Turbocoupe engine. Those are both intercooled, and the 87-88 Turbocoupe have a smaller but quicker spooling IHI turbo. If you do that, all the components in a 2.3T(any SVO or intercooled TC) are capable of producing 300HP without taking off the pan or valve cover.
