hello from the new guy, have a few questions

Hey all. Found my way over here by a suggestion of a friend.

Anyway have a 92 hatchback 4cyclinder 5 speed for the 24 hours of lemons bought her for 450, drove home like a champ. few issues need to be sorted out but can't wait to race this thing.

will start a project thread soon but have some questions as I am used to Toyota's and my focus, not used to this old stuff

1.

can someone tell me how to read this? I am used to simple blinks and that's it not the whole procedure that ford has set up.

2. are there any good budget upgrades for the brakes? brakes are outside of the $500 limit but my team isn't exactly overfilled with cash. we plan for SS brake lines but from there it is up in the air. the 15in rims will be staying if that matters.

3. I know about the pre-94 ranger header, the cleaning out or removal of the "snorkel" on the intake for some cheap horses, anything else that I should keep in mind for el cheapo power?

4. Is there any stock suspension parts off the GT that are worth having? (springs, sway bars, etx) thinking they would be cheap to pick up and durability and handling is more important than outright speed.

5. however that said, been poking around and reading up on some past LeMons racers what would be the cheapest, easiest way to install 4.10 gears on the car? I read the the ranger comes with them stock but the axle won't bolt on due to leaf spring vs coil suspension.

6. Lastly where is a good place to plug a water temp gauge and oil pressure gauge? Any how to's for a kill switch? these are also outside the budget limit and want to make sure I do them correctly.

and of course some pics of the ride, she ain't pretty but what do you expect for $450? at least the a/c, heat and cruise control work lol.

Thanks for any help and look forward to keeping everyone up on the progress

The blinks i'm not a hundred percent sure on. May want to get a code scanner and see what pops up. Judging by the lights though i'd have to say there is some kinda malfunction with the air bag. Possibly one of the sensors is damaged from those impacts i'm seeing, not 100% sure as my mustang doesn't have those damned things lol.

Brakes well best upgrade is to the gt brakes and such. More surface area = better braking power obviously. Also converting to 4 wheel disc brakes helps. I don't remember and 4 bangers that had disc all the way around.

3. I know about the pre-94 ranger header, the cleaning out or removal of the "snorkel" on the intake for some cheap horses, anything else that I should keep in mind for el cheapo power?

Ranger header or racerwalsh long tube header will give a few ponies. Also a cai may add a pony or 2 but your not gonna see anything spectacular. Most of the guys I know that have made some decent numbers run out in the modified series out at the dirt track, but those motors are worked to rev up to 10k rpm, lotta work on the head mainly.

4. Is there any stock suspension parts off the GT that are worth having? (springs, sway bars, etx) thinking they would be cheap to pick up and durability and handling is more important than outright speed.

GT shocks, struts and spring should work fine i'd image. I put some air shocks on my car and some 1.5 lowering springs on it. Has helped with the body roll but I want to be able to wing it around corners a bit faster myself.

5. however that said, been poking around and reading up on some past LeMons racers what would be the cheapest, easiest way to install 4.10 gears on the car? I read the the ranger comes with them stock but the axle won't bolt on due to leaf spring vs coil suspension.

As for gears. Best bet is to find an 8.8 rear 4 lug same brake setup and just get some 4.10 gears. Otherwise your gonna pay to upgrade to a 7.5 posi and gears and the bearing kit to go along with it. Usually can find an 8.8 cheaply just a matter of having the 4 lug axles.

6. Lastly where is a good place to plug a water temp gauge and oil pressure gauge? Any how to's for a kill switch? these are also outside the budget limit and want to make sure I do them correctly.

Oil sensor bung is on the driver side of the block right below the lower intake. Water temp bung is just below that. Back side of the block towards transmission. If you need a pic let me know and I'll scavenge my photobucket.

and of course some pics of the ride, she ain't pretty but what do you expect for $450? at least the a/c, heat and cruise control work lol.

Best way to get power from the 4 bangers is an svo swap. I got my car setup with that and i'm making 238hp and 280torque at the tires. I still want more though.

The GT brakes are better than the stock 4 cyl brakes .... Salvage yard for those parts. 94-95 65mm throttle body from the mustang or the turbo coupe will help (salvage yard again). Port & polish the intakes. lose the cats if your state doesn't require em. CAI, easy to fabricate. On my 2.3 I added the quad shocks in the rear to reduce wheel hop. (Salvage yard yet again). I read about something about disconnecting the knock sensor from working.
