How is the idle for the stage 1 cam? Smooth or does it have a slight rough idle as the stage 1 cam for the V-8? Any pictures of actually doing an install on the cam would be great ...

Todd, the idle is stable at 1,000 RPM. Below this, it is subject to surging. Expect a slightly rich running condition with a speed density fuel system on a stock engine. this cam works much better with a Speedflow header and full 2.5" exhaust.
I plan on posting pictures of a complete cam swap and valve spring swap as well. It will take me some time to compile all of these. Maybe I will just put up one picture at a time.

OHC, I noticed your HP went from 181 to 207 ... You're pretty much right where I want my little 2.3. What have you updated on yours to pull up all that extra HP? Also if you could post a video or even a sound bite of what yours sounds like would be appreciated .. Thanks ...

Todd, I have most of the mods listed under "My Garage" on this forum. The HP jump came from the addition of an Esslinger head and re-grinding the A-237 cam, adding additional lift. Along with those mods, I increased the compression to 11.9:1 and added water injection.
The exhaust note is unimpressive. I have intentionally installed a very quiet exhaust on the car. The idle surges slightly under various conditions, but is mostly stable. It is hard to tell that this isn't a stock engine, unless I floor it.

Cool thats how my car performs with the idle.... Good to know its normal for stock.
OHC you are the man LOL. Thank you so much for the info. Its good see that others see the value in this little engine! Cams a lil on the high $$$ but ya got to pay for performance i guess. One final thing. If you could post a step by step guide for the cam install i would greatly appreciate it. Im very familar with this externals of this engine. But ive never taken it a part down to the cam lvl. I reckon is pretty simple. But because this is my daily driver...and cant afford to make any mistakes when i decided to work on my car hehe... you feel me? Maybe some precautionaly steps too. Like if i have to drain all my oil first... It is truely a mystery to me past those areas of the engine. Chiltons manual depection of the engine looks like Koren.....lol..... Thanks again man! PS: Is your throttle body still stock too? If so, i think im going to abandon my throttlebody project. I would have bore the upper intake... mabe gut the bottom. I just dont have the tools for that ..... yet. Might drop by lowes and see if they have a spherical sander or something that fits on a drill.... But if its worth it, i might consider it again. I have the throttle body. Just need to get the drillin lol. Modify the cable linkage. Nobody tells you that its setup to work an upward intake fitting on the V8 engine. More drilling and fabricating. |

Ok. Almost time for my final upgrades!
Hello everyone!
I would first like to say thank you to everyone who has contributed to this topic. Especialy OHC. Its been a long while since ive posted, so im going to give an update ![]() My 2.3L mustang is running pretty good now. Ive noticed an improvement with acceleration. Engine doesnt want to output when its cold...but when warms up its perfect. I havnt taken it to the dyno yet, but i think its about 10% or 15% faster than it originally was as stock. Quick recap of mods: ------------------------------------------------------------- CAI + Ram air design 19 ib Injectors (originally 17") Iridium Sparks Cherry boom muffs EGR Valve MOD* (it has been modified to allow Environmental Air instead of Exaust) ------------------------------------------------------------- So im expecting about 1K back in tax refunds, and i plan to spend about 2/3 of that for my final upgrades. Hehe...2/3.....2.3L...strange aint it? ![]() *First, Im going to purchase the exaust header highlighted earlier in this Post. *Then im going to puchase the Racing Cam, also highlighted in this Post. *Then im going to puchase 24 ib injectors OHC if your still posting on the forums, i want to install this cam myself. You mentioned a while back you might post pics and a FAQ on now to do this. If you can't thats cool, but i know you know what your talking about However, if anyone else has insight as to the step by step installation of a cam, please let me know. I will need to know things like whether or not i need to empty my oil or fluilds before i take apart my engine. Or anything else that will potentially go wrong doing this work myself.I have taken my engine apart as far as my lower intake for cleaning and upgrading. I found out the hard way that radiator fluild would leak out once the lower intake was removed. Scared me silly, but all was well. I just want to be prepare for anything else unexpected. After this upgrade, i think im done with this car. I have weight my cost and options, and the previous two projects i was considering just dont add up for me. I wanted to install a turbo at first. But its not that easy. You need forge pistons, a new computer, the turbo kit, etc etc. Well over $1000. For that money i could put a down payment on a 5.0. Thought about dropoing a 5.0 under the hood as well. Enigine is cheap too. A windsor 302 v8 can be found on ebay for like....$400....but again, new trans, new computer, new exaust...same out come over $1000.00. For a daily driver...i dont think its worth it. I figure after these upgrades, it will be around 150 hp+. Which is all i need to make this thing perform like a modern Ford Escort or something. But 105 Hp+ just doesnt cut it anymore here in 2011. Anyways thats my plans. If anyone can pitch in, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again guys! ZcRaider |

changing from a slider to a roller cam only involves changing the rockers and the cam, as long as the roller rockers are from a pre 1995 motor.
