Repair manual and parts source advice needed

I just bought back the '87 Mustang LX (2.3L) I bought new in high school and owned for about 15 years before selling it. Unfortunately the guy I sold it to did not take good care of it, so what I have now is essentially a project car for my four boys and I to start rebuilding over the next few years (oldest boy is 11).

Right now I just need to get it into "OK to drive" condition, so I'm not looking to start down the road of performance enhancements yet. That being said, which repair manual would be best? Chilton, Haynes, other???

Also, where would you suggest purchasing parts from to get decent quality at a good price (noting that I'm just wanting to go with OEM spec parts for now)? Online (which sites do you prefer?) or a store like O'Reilly, Pepboys, Autozone, etc.

Thank you for the advice!
Matt

It sounds as if you are going to have this project for a while. If it were my project, I would try to find a factory service manual. The other books really leave a lot to be desired.

OE parts a getting a little harder to find these days and they all seem to vary in price, so often times you are better off searching online for the best price on a particular item, rather than trying to obtain all of your parts from the same source.

"Late model Restoration" (see link) seems to have quite a few OE parts in stock and they are fairly competitive in terms of pricing.

for starters, here's a great deal... get this one, then search for a good price on book number 1 and a evtm book. you'll spend 50-60 by the time you've got all 3.

as for online parts, rockauto.com for the usual replacement stuff, car-part.com is a great search engine for used parts, and round it off with craigslist and ebay.
