How far back?

I recently acquired and aftermarket muffler hoping to improve performance a tiny bit and maybe make it sound a littlr better, but I was told it wouldn't work unless I redo the whole kit and kaboodle

so I thought if I put the after market muffler off of the header with a bit of 2.25 or 2.5 piping that it would have better flow?

i believe power gains are more effective if the muffler is placed further from the motor rather than closer.

oops, let me qualify that... "street" power gains are more effective. a close to manifold muffler and short pipe are best for top end (read horsepower), but lose power at lower rpms (read torque).

street cars like torque.
