these are my plans for my 93 2.3 i would like to hear your input because from the posts ive read you guys seem to know what your talking about. so here i go.
im getting a 2.3 block and dual spark head from a friend im planning a turbo motor but i dont want the swap that wouldnt give me quite the sense of of accomplishment as if i built one. if i can use the dual spark head for a turbo application im going to run a mild cam double valve springs. as for the block im gonna machine the block and add forged pistons and have them drill a hole for the oil feed to the turbo while there at it. havnt made a choice on which turbo. also i have a five speed behind my N/A and was wondering how much power it can handle a friend of mine who i think is full of shit he said the tranny is good to 150hp and i read an article on t-5s and it said 240lbs of torque. but those are my plans tell me what you think and what i should i add. |

Just wondering, why do you want to use the dual-plug head?

if i use the dual plug head i dont have to go and find another head and rewire anymore then im gonna have to(@#$%ing hate wiring)because im planning on a megasquirt type system. my biggest concern is will the tranny hold up? I dont want a car like turbo lx's (which is awesome 9.6 out of a 4 banger thats amazing!!) but i wanna be able to run with the v8s and embarrass those stupid ricers with those exhaust that sound like a pissed of weed eater. If theres a way to do it N/A id be more then happy to go ahead and do that would prolly be easier on the wallet lol

turbo swap advise
I just recently purchased my first Mustang an 87 lx 2.3l coupe.this is my second fox body ford.my first was an 80 strait 6 fairmont and I really miss that car.
I bought the car from a scrap metal dealer with the intention of swaping in a 200 strait 6 but when I got the car home I noticed the 2.3l 4cly was in pretty decent shape and could be repaired easier than swaping in a 6.I have known about the potential of the 2.3l turbo engine since and article I read in hot rod magazine quite a few years back so the plan changed from strait 6 to turbo 4. Early last week I drove to a junkyard that I knew had some fox mustangs looking for a cooling fan.when I found that all the mustangs were missing thier fans I poped the hood of a cougar to find the object of my desire a fuel injucted 2.3l turbo engine that looks to be complete.my plan is to go back and pull all the parts needed to convert my mustang to turbo. my question is what parts do I need and which ones do I leave behind.I am planning to take the whole engine, airbox, harness, rad, exhaust downpipe, and pcm.also is the A4LD in my non turbo mustang capable of handling the power of the turbo engine. If not can I beef it up.I can drive standard trans but I an pretty tall and have huge feet the might have trouble when I put on my winter boots on.should I pull all the manual t-5 stuff from the cougar and convert my mustang.what are the pros and cons of each option. thanks for you time big ken Last edited by bigkenny87lx; June 8th, 2010 at 04:09 AM. |

That's the head, but it is not an easy swap by any stretch of the imagination. You'd have to fabricate your own intake and headers. The turbo is a cheap Chinese knock-off.

Finaly
I found this site and got inspired so i got off my ass today and did the damn thing.
Pulled the manifold and turbo from the manifold cut the exhaust. Cause i had to to get to the dang'ol water return fitting out which was the reason it wasnt running in the first place. Hey folks you cant put rubber line close to the manifold.it burns in half. I bought the car that way and thats the way it broke down. It took forever to find the right stuff for the water return .ive been looking for months.i finaly got mad at it went and got a compression fitting and some copper tube.it isn't factory but it works. I got finished about dark. Just enough time to do some tire burn'n. The car is super fun. I gotta smile from ear to ear.and i hope if yours ain't running you get inspired. |
