my new project

hey everyone, i just picked up an 89 lx with some serious engine problems, first of all the oil looks and feels like pancake batter. it has a blown head gasket and a pretty bad rod knock. I plan on rebuilding the engine and what I was wondering is if anyone knows of a good place to find a rebuild kit for a reasonable price, also i was wondering if anyone knows of a dohc 4 valve per cylender head that would fit on the 2.3 block. i would even go for a sohc but i do want the 4 valves per cylender. thanks for any advice you may have.

Esslinger is your best bet for 2.3L parts.

For a twincam head, you'll have to find one from a 2.3L DOHC Volvo (yes, Volvo). To make the head work requires fabricating custom intake/exhaust manifolds, and some other stuff... use the search. Ford made a protype DOHC for the 2.3L, and scrapped it as the 2.3L Turbo with the head made 300+ hp on light boost, and they couldn't have the 4-banger eclipsing the 5.0

If you want power from the 2.3L, turbo is the way to go. 300hp isn't that hard, 400 is doable on a streetable motor, and there're a few examples out there of 7, 8, and 900 hp (yes, that's on a lot of spray).

If you're thinking that you can build up the 2.3L for less money than a 5.0, you're very wrong. A good set of heads for a 5.0 will set you back $1200, a good head (with cam) for the 2.3 is more like $2K.

Hope it goes well for you!

look at the sticky at the top, i would consider going to find a 2.3 turbo motor and use the volvo head and fabricate it to fit
