cold air intake ideas

so in the experiment process,im trying to figure out the best custom cold air setup for my car.. earlier plans were to run 3" mandrel bent pipe through the inner fender and run the filter all the way up to an opening on the front bumper cover... now im wondering if i can get the same performance by running the piping where the stock air box was and build a enclosure around the filter where the only opening would be by the hole in the firewall.. anyone try this?

As ohc230 had told me, that the stock box is good enough with little to mods. I only cut a 3" exhaust piping and wrapped it with thermo header wrap. Zonker said that i didn't have to go that big but it was made already and seems to work. Gains, more power for highway on ramps and mpg.

The only thing I've done for my induction system is remove the restrictor in the fat tube and also removed the flap from the airbox.

well im trying to figure out some kind of diagram in the bay on how i should route it..might make some test pieces from scrap and get some results.. i have a short ram on it now i got off of ebay and the filter points it the direction of the radiator.. its probably still getting warmer air through it..

I used bbk's 1557 cold air intake. I had to make my own piece so it would hook up to the throttle body. But it works pretty good.

If you are set on using an aftermarket filter setup, building the enclosure would be a good idea, but you should make a tube that comes from the front somewhere.

I saw a home made Lightning airbox made from a plastic trash can once. I will see if I can find it again.
