93 2.3 or 86 3.8 which can make more power


i have an 93 2.3 auto tranny that stock is supposed to have 105hp stock that i plan on doing a whole bunch of mods 2 such as

moates quarterhorse
stage 1 cam
mill the head
port the head
5 angle valve job
junk yard pullies
performance exhaust
performance header
cam gear
msd wires an Ignition system
Aluminum Driveshaft
t-lok
better gears in diff

an i wanted to know if i bought an 86 3.8 with 120 hp stock would i get more bang for my buck doing these mods to the 86 . someone has one for sale for cheap in my area

P.S i could not find many mods for an 86 3.8 so please add on if u know any thanks in advance

I dont know that I have ever seen anyone build a 3.8 from the 80s. There are a lot of mods for the 2.3. Your best bet would be a turbo build for it.

I would def stick with the 4 banger. If you do mods that you plan to, you will be amazed at the difference. I you do want some info on modding a 3.8 here are some links that may help you:

Turbo 2.3 is gonna crap all over an N/A 3.8L

But, N/A to N/A? OHC isn't gonna make up for another 65% displacement. It's really going to come down to what aftermarket is available for each. I don't remember a lot out there for the 2.3L when I had mine, and the 3.8L can be pushed to 200hp just using factory parts ('99+ Mustang and Windstar parts).
