Drivability of turbo 2.3
Currently I have a 93 2.3 N/A LX and was curious if anyone here has had a higher power turbo 2.3, and how they are for everyday driving? I would like to go between 300-350rwhp when built, but if it is not fun or reliable to drive daily, I would look into doing a 4.6 3v or coyote swap. However, the turbo route is much easier and cheaper as I won't have to mess with gauges, k-member, tranny, etc. My goal with the car is to run high 11's on drag radials, but be a daily driver also. Is this unrealistic? I don't want to spend 5k on this car to make it no fun or unreliable.

The turbo 2.3 will be drivable, and fun. But if you want something to be smooth as a daily driver, and still have tons of power talk to OHC230 about how he did his supercharged 2.7L. With the right size turbo they build boost almost imediately, but the high end power is limited by the amount of air that the turbo can efficiently move. A big turbo will have great high end, but lack at the begining. The Supercharger will have boost high and low, but it will be there as soon as you step on the throttle.

While I agree with you on some points, a supercharger still has a limited volumetric efficiency and unless I was going with a 2.5 or 2.7 then I would expect to lose some power down low (unless I went with a PD blower). I unfortunately do not have the capability to fabricate a supercharger bracket so that would be another issue. The ability to buy bolt in parts for turbos makes it a better idea for me. I guess you have answered the question though about the drivability and fun factor. I have had cars that have higher power levels but have never owned or driven any turbo 4 cylinders besides STIs or EVOs though those seemed plenty streetable to me. Thanks Mike.

Yes, the fabrication is a big part. Bolt ons are everywhere for the turbo 2.3, and relatively cheap. I liked mine while it was turboed, but it only had 130 hp... lol an n/a ec will not run a boosted car without mods. Youre welcome.
