pilot bearing

how does one go about getting this dang thing out of the crank.....

after 2 days of F ing with it i took a dremel to it in hopes of getting outter shell casing out of the crank.....the roller race was gone already when i pulled the tranny.

but comparing it to the one on my old v6 and 5.0 there is nothing for a puller or slide hammer setup that can grab on to it.

anyone have this problem?

You see this all the time, if you are a mechanic by trade. Several companies make pullers for pilot bearings and they work with varying degrees of success. A lot of auto parts stores rent them. For stubborn bearings, it sometimes necessary to carefully grind a shallow groove into the outer bearing housing, after which you can split the housing, using a small chisel to collapse the shell inward. No need to grind all the way through, you just need to weaken the shell. (see pic of groove)
