4 Banger To: DOHC 4.6, 331 Stroker, Or SC 3.8???

Alright guys, I wasnt sure on where to post this so I decided to do it here to get an unbiased suggestion. So I have a 1992 lx that has a 2.3l in it. I am in the process of getting this swap under way. Now my problem is I dont know what to swap in. Im not going for an all out drag monster. I want this car to be streetable whenever I choose to start her up. This wont be my dd but it wont be sitting garage either. Now if im going to this I want to do it once. I have had 5.0l befote but never anything else. Now I know what a 5.0l (not the coyote) is capable of but I have.been toying with the idea of doing something different. If I were to go 5.0l route I would do a mild built 331 stroker. Easy to mod and have alot of after market support. I also went with the idea on doing a DOHC 4.6l out of a 1996-1998 mustang cobra. yeah I know a 03-04 cobra motor would be awsome but...$$$$. I dont see very many of these and I would get more of a wow factor. I heard these motors are alot more expensive to build but they definatly can get up and move. I also was toying with the idea of throwing a supercharged 3.8l out of a thunderbird supercoupe. I have never seen this done before and I would defintly get a wow out of it. Power potential is still plenty to just have fun driving around. I am just trying to get some more opinions before I settle on something. What do you guys think? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

My vote is the 331 Stroker. It's the most common and will be the cheapest. The 4.6L would def. be interesting though.

331 is going to be the easiest to stuff into a fox platform. They put 5.0's in from the factory, so a 331 would use mostly factory components.

A 4.6 would be more of a challenge, and I can assure you the 03/04 Cobra motor is in fact awesome.

That motor is also capable of handling 800-1000hp without even replacing anything. New pistons and fasteners and it's well over 1500hp capable. Not to mention with no more than bolt ons/tune/exhaust it's a mid to high 400's engine. Port the supercharger and it's even higher. Bolt on a twin screw and the sky's the limit.

What kind of power are you looking for, and what kind of budget? I think you could be able to do something with a 4.6 DOHC if you're willing to get your hands dirty. If you're not looking for more than about 450, a turbo kit (or centri kit) and a $700 MKVIII motor will get you there no problem. You'd have to throw in rods/pistons to get to around 600.

Only swap on a v6 if you plan to boost it. All it takes is a good cam and 15psi to make 500rwhp on a good rotating assemblly.

331 will be the easiest/cheapest, which means it's also the most likely to get done.

If you're gonna do something different, do something crazy. My vote would be for a 3.5L Ecoboost, though I don't know of any RWD manual transmissions for them, and I'm not sure how well the 6-speed auto from the F150 would fit. You'd be looking at a lot of groundwork for that, though, and I'd bet damn near everything would have to be custom down to the gauges.

Times like this make me wish I had a 2.3 fox notch.
