89 2.3L With 86 TC Turbo Swap

Sorry to make a post if theres a million covering the topic but im in the middle of pulling the turbo manifold and exhuast piping from an 86 turbo coupe to put on my 89 2.3L and im just trying to figure out what all i need besides the givens, like pistons and ecu, the car currently has 19LB injectors from a Mark VII (atleast i think they are 19LB) a stock 94 5.0 throttle body and a slightly ported upper manifold.

My main question is with the injectors hold if i dont up the boost or do anything crazy just so i can set it up and get it running, i plan on putting the old 24LB injectors from my 98 gt in it when i swap them out, the car is purely a project that will barely get driven.

Next question is do i need the MAF or would i be better off using my ECU with a Tweecer or Megasquirt system? Mine is currently a speed density setup.

Does anyone know how much boost my pistons can handle if im not stomping the gas everyday?

any other tips would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks

5-6 PSI would be a reasonable limit with the factory cast pistons. If the 86' is still in the yard and you dont have the vane air meter and the injectors from it, you might want to double back and get those items as well. Look in the FAQ section for turbo 2.3 swap for lots of useful info. The 24# injectors are a bit small for this application, even with low boost, so if you can snag the one's from the turbo coupe, I would advise it.

Ok thanks thats what i figured so i did nab the injectors, after a few hours of research i started looking into using a non metered air system with the Pimp ECU from Stinger, but you never know plans might change, OHC i also plan on using a FMIC will that change the amount of boost that can be handled?

No a FMIC will not help get higher boost. The pistons can only handle so much force, and cooling the intake air wont change that. You will need better pistons before trying to go any higher.
