Pros and Cons decking/milling the head Help


I was planing on decking the head on my 93 2.3 mustang .050 i know it increases CR and hp power but it there any negative like very bad idle or gas mileage also 5 angle valve job, tuner and maybe small cam .im trying to keep it cheap

Milling will change your cam timing. You will need adjustable cam gear to correct it.

or you can just take .150 off the head and have better compression! and he is right it does change your timing, ive been told 1 degree per .025" (makes the cam work that much later) so you dont really need to get one, i run my ranger with .150" off and a stock cam gear, but each tooth is 10 degrees, so i either run 6 degrees retarded or 4 degrees advanced. I change it sometimes. The other issue is spark knock, i have bad spark knock with 87, i have to use 89 or higher to make it go away.

I also run my mustang with the 4 plug head at .150 shaved, but i have an adjustable cam gear for that one. i dont have it run strait up with stock timing though. I think i have that one running about 2 degrees retarded, it changes where your power is made is all. retarded= higher rpm power and less torque, advanced = good low end torque and lower rpm hp.
