Head work vs mpg

I have a dual plug head. What is my best option for cleaning the head. I talked to a shop, they would port & polish the head for me. Wouldn't that open the ports bigger and then the stock cam wouldn't work in it's range? If stage one cam is needed wouldn't i bigger injectors to match the cam and defeating my main goal, mpg?

It really depends on the shop doing the work, but you are right, any significant HP gains would need to be accompanied by adjustments in fuel trim. The good news is; both dual and single plug heads have choke points which can be relieved by porting, without adversely affecting velocities. Finding a shop that has the technology to perform the work or patience to listen to their customers, might be challenging though. You might want to contact BoPort racing in Fremont CA. Below are scanned images of a 2.3 port, before and after performing a street porting job. The work below, will consistently produce a 15% increase in HP and torque when combined with some surface milling, on an otherwise stock engine. The valve seats are finished with a 5 angle seat and the valves are back faced with a 15 degree cut as well. (not depicted here) Fuel economy is consistently better with these mods.

So basically boport stage 1&2 (stock valves) and mill down to get 10:5 compression? For n/a head?

Stage 1 porting
The best bang for the buck porting option if you are on a budget. Our stage 1 port usually outflows other shop's FULL porting. This level of porting focuses on blending of the valve seat angles into the bowl and short turn of the port, where the largest airflow gains are achieved (even more-so with oversized valves).

Cast Iron- $299
Aluminum- $249

Stage 2 Porting
Same as our stage 1 porting, with the addition of work performed around the guide bosses and some valve unshrouding in the combustion chamber for further flow gains.
