84 ranger carb upgrade?? help...

k i have an 84 ford ranger with a 2.3 n/a in it. the motor went out on me a few years ago so i installed a block from a 93 mustang and had the 84 head rebuilt with cam and rollers from the same 93. the truck ran great but the carb is going out now and i am tired of rebuilding these things. and found out that there are no real upgrades as far as carb unless i go drastic or spend lots of cash. my next bet is i have a rebult head out of an 88 mustang and a lower intake manifold for it too. i am about to get the adapter for a carb setup for it but was wondering what carb should i go with. i am thinking a 2bb but what one? and howmany cfms can it handle.i also have tube headers from a newer ranger that are going in it too. its going to be a daily driver so i dont want to go too crazy. any ideas? also what kind of ignition setup should i go with? or should i just keep the one i have.?

Unless you plan on building something for high performance use, the Holley Weber 5200 series 2 barrel carburetor is hard to beat. It will provide excellent throttle response and reasonable economy, while still giving decent performance. 4 cylinder Mustang II's will have the donor parts you need to do the swap. If you are hell bent on using a factory Ranger header, search for a 98-01 Ranger Casting # F87E-9428-CB. It is by far the best of the factory manifolds I've tested.
