quest for 200hp w/o a turbo (79 2.3)

This will be my process of my 79 2.3 hatch stang. Main plans are.....

8.8 rearend swap
roller cam/lifters/and followers
ranger header (will have soon, just has to come in mail)
lighter pullies
A/C delete
Ram air hood scoop (maybe....)
some slicks for the track
adjustable suspension (for the slicks)
swap the crank from a 2.5L 96 ranger (basically stroking the engine)
forged internals
port and polished head
bigger carb (2 barrel)
and a few more things that I just cant think of...

Mods i have right now

Mallory ignition coil
Thrush glasspack (sidepipe)
Cold air intake (homemade)
and the rest is pretty much stock or its stuff i cant call a "mod"

But anyways I paid $300 for the car (didnt run at the time)

and have dumped about $450 into it so $750 total

soon it will be about $1000 cause i need new tires

Well Seth, you and MSO have the same idea

i'd say thats about 130hp at the most
go with a bigger Hydraulic cam, not roller

and upgrade to a bigger exhaust W/O the glasspack, they dont make back pressure

PS this is Daniel's aka SpeedJunkie's brother

Oh and I failed to mention that I have redone my interior with vinyl die.

I give vinyl die a +10

how much back pressure would I be needing what kinda exhaust do you recommend? I love my glasspack but will change for some extra power/perfomance.

And tell daniel I said hi

first off, your sig

[img ] that code you use [/ img]

he said whats up

i would recommend a 2.25 piping all the way back from the header with problably a flowmaster 40, they have good back pressure and make your car sound like a big ol' V8 on top of that as well

fixed my sig.

Ive heard a 40 on a 2.3 and wasnt that impressed with the sound. But it cant always be a good sound you want you want some ponies behind it too. But I will soon have the whole exhaust figured out, I will have a header in less then a week, I will have to weld a cap over the warm up vent, and plug the oxegon sensor whole

I like the way they sound on my car, they have a deeper growl now since i put the Turbo swap in with duals

but Edelbrock has a nice sounding one for the 2.3's as well

well since its not EFI, it'll be a bit harder to tune, so Air/Fuel mixture will play a big role in how much HP you make

that sucks for you then

EFI = more hp

unless you got a mechanical head, then you can go 10k rpms and own everyone

Whens daniel gettin a trans for his car? He says he has a T5 WC that he wants to put in it.

But I am gonna do a dual soon (I cant afford it), I would just make my own exhaust but I dont have a welder. Is there a kit that I could mod and have it work? And I am not running a cat converter.

I'm sorry dude, but in my case carb woops on EFI. And I actually think carb has more power then EFI and has better thottle response.

nah dude EFI is got it all over everything, knock that timing to 20* advance, Now thats throttle response

yea daniel has a T5 WC going in, but the output shaft is bent, so were gonna take the one from my father's car and take that, and then put the other WC T5 in the T bird

www.Racerwalsh.com has 2.3 exhaust systems

Eyy, sleepers car is alright (sarcastic voice...) I didnt know daniel liked my car enough to watch it alot, lol.

And you know what I was saying, I was tryin to make a point of the down pipe.

And I am more of a carb kinda guy cause I do not know much about electronics and computers, so I would know what the hell I was doing if i was working with EFI.

Well its a good thing daniel has a older brother that knows alot about cars and can help him with it. Nobody in my family besides my dad really knows about cars and he never helps me with mine. My older brother, hes starting to learn about cars and is trying to get a 2.3L stang too.

Oh and this is the header (ranger header) I will have sometime this week.

I paid $30 and the shipping for this piece and it looks like its in great shape. I'm drilling out the rivets, sanding it down, capping the vent and the oxegen sensor hole and then maybe painting it black.
