I need help with my fan ASAP.....

a couple days ago i drove my 93 stang lx 2.3L for the day. it was geting kinda hot about in the middle or one mark above on the temp gage. didnt realy think anything of it all that day antil i noticed that the fan never turned on all that day. so today i started my stang up and i let it run for about 10 20 min. and the temp gage moved up to the middle mark and the fan was still not turning on so i fiddled with the fan wire and still no fan turning on (this is while the engine is still running). so i hopped in my car tuned on the max A/C nob just to see what would happen since i dont have an A/C pully my A/C just blows out air. and... my fan finally turned on so i left the A/C on and the engine cooled down in less than 5 minutes. than i turned off the A/C and my fan stoped along with the A/C.

What should i do? is the fan supposed to run only when the ac is on?? and what mark on the temp gage is to hot for the engine??

THANKS

I think the fans on these cars fail alot because the fan on my car did not work. The terminals on the motor were loose and when i hooked the fan straight to 12V got nothing wiggled the wire and came on briefly. Found a 2.3l stang in a junk yard and the wiring to the fan was rigged up. So im guessing they had a problem with it not coming on also. And also bought a used fan from a guy off turboford.net and it has a aftermarket motor on it. Just my 2 cent. My guess the motor is bad. Hook it up to 12V and see if it works. Wiggle the wires to see if it cuts off.

i have hooked the motor up to the battery and it runs fine i have even tested the wires and i got a positive read that none of them are bad.

I had this problem very recently with my car. If the fan is good when you directly connect it to the battery then the fan is obviously good still. You need to locate the fan controller for your mustang and replace that if you wish to use the stock fan temps. I don't remember what the turn on temp is. I'm using an aftermarket controller for my car thats set to turn it on at 182 degrees farenheit. I think the controller runs about 20-30 bucks or so. The adjustable controller is around the same price, just gonna know how to wire the aftermarket one up which isn't to hard.

Same thing happened to me, causing my car to over heat twice and I just rigged it up to a switch and it works fine

that doesnt always help MSO lol trust me i went through all of this
and ended up stranded out on a highway long way from home and
no phone or money to use a nerby phone if there was any.

Thermostates only open up at a cooler temp then a normal Thermostate
would. Doesnt mean your engine will run cooler. Thus the reason for a fan. If you were constantly moving like on a long highway with no stops.
( i wasnt actually just smaller roads coming back from the beach)
you should be going at a high enough speed to have enough air going to
the rad to keep your coolant cold. without that you need the fan to help
suck that air in through the rad.

So.. check more into your wiring to check for broken wires. and check to
see if your engine temp sensor is working correctly

well i have a stock fan in mine and as soon as it kicks in my engine temp
goes down a nice chunk. they aint the greatst but they work.
If you were to buy an after market cooling fan. they are normally
designed better to increase air flow and help bring in alot more air
through the rad. Even changing the rad helps keep things cooler.

If it looks like you got the original rad in there. it could probably use a
replacement if things look Green in color. your rad isnt really
doing that great of a job aymore.. try changing to one with more rows of cooling lines. takes longer for the coolant to go through the rad completely
allowing it to cool alot more.
