Basic help needed.

Ok, here's is what I have right now:

1993 stock 2.3 with auto tranny.

I bought a turbo motor from a dude. He said it is from an '86 TC, he thinks. I don't know squat about how to ID the turbo, but I do know it has the old style intake and the exhaust manifold has E3 stamped on it.

I plan on getting the block cleaned and inspected, and if necessary, .30 over. I'll look into strokin it and have the head milled, ranger cam and reworked exhaust. Also a volvo intercooler.

I also have the harness and computer from the original donor car. Since it is aparently from an older car I don't know if it will work the airbag, (which I want).

Would a computer from a known auto, (like from an '88), work the airbag?

Would there be anything that might not work with another donor computer?

I dont think there ever was a TC with an air bag

the 86 engine should have a garrett T3 on it

if you do a .30" bore your gonna need new pistons, thats gonna be around $400 alone, my JE's were $450

but that ecu should work

Yeah, I've seen that pistons are pretty pricey. But since time isn't a issue, I'll just save up.

Any ideas on what options I have for the airbag problem? Is re-pinning or modifying and using the stock computer an option?

How are these t3's? What can they handle?

"but it should be a problem with out thats for sure"

You confused me on this one.

Also, what options do I have on different turbos if I need more?

I appreciate the info and apologize for some dumb questions.

whoops

i dont think it will give you problems if its an air bag version

all it does is just activate the sensor to tell it when to go off

well you can go a T3/t4 which is popular or the ever so famous HX35 and Hy35 like me and most other 2.3 guys

best turbo for the 2.3's

Is switching turbos a simple thing? Like just swap 'em out and go? (I could see maybe having to increase injector size).

well its pretty simple if you have a basic understanding of it

but 30# injectors will be fine witha T3/T4

HX35 will need 42or better

Man, I do appreciate the info. I think I might just use an auto computer and do with out an airbag for a while. I think it would be easier to do at first. I could re-pin on another harness to hook up to the stock computer later.
