Pics of your crank and cam pulley would help alot. The crank pulley should only have a notch on the out ring nothing special to indicate a timing mark and the cam should have an arrow of some sort with a plastic piece in the bottom right to indicate TDC on the cam. Not sure how you would have a crank pulley from another car, much less if it isn't the stock pulley then the pulley you have may be bigger or smaller than the stock pulley leading to other problems.

All you do is put the rotor in a position that faces #1 on the distributor cap, and leaves the ability to advance/retard the distributor body without hitting anything. The cam timing.... I used to remember how to do this on an engine missing the cam marks. Or do you have that plastic pointer on your head? reply to this please. If you're missing that pointer, there was an old way of taking a string and aligning it to your cam and aux shaft centerline. But I'd have to search for that method cause it's been a long time. The crank, If I remember correctly, all that has to be done is have the key way facing straight up for TDC. Or you can take all the plugs out of the head, insert a screw driver into the #1 plug hole and SLOWLY crank the motor by hand/ratchet/breaker-bar, till you get #1 to TDC. SLOWLY'er, turn the crank by hand and find exact TDC with the screw driver as a feeler. Someone chime in if you remember the string method! |

Thanks... The Engine Timing is right... I just did a head gasket 2 weeks ago... I'm just worried that the haynes manual says that the crank pulley notch and the timing cover mark should align during this process and they don't... so when i set the igniton timing to match that mark on the cover it's not right cuz the pulley didn't line up to start... I think i'm gonna have to take some pictures to show you guys
