Milling / Shaving The Head

How does that gain HP and how much will it add? I might be having to change the head gasket and was wondering since I have it ripped off, maybe have that done. And how much would it cost?

Thanks to everyone

Head milling is a simple upgrade you can do yourself

basically your making the ports just as big as the intake and header ports so its even'd out

the mini stock guys do this and thats what gains there 400hp n/a, alot of head milling they do

i did it myself and not sure how much it will cost

I usually mill my ministock heads .120. I believe you can go .150 without getting into your intake bolt holes. Most machine shops around me charge $100 for the .120 mill. It is cheap HP. This will change your cam timming so get an adjustable cam sproket to fine tune your performance.

So i could basically do it myself with a die grinder? I would be to afraid of going to deep and fugging up.

But what about shaving the head? I heard there is power gains through that also?

yes you can do it with a die grinder but be careful

as for actually cutting the head, thats for fixing head warpage

but guys cut it down to make the CC's smaller for more compression

you can use a thinner head gasket if you want, that will increase compression

More compression more power? Anyway, can I can raise my compression without tearing the motor apart?

No new pistons needed, I have only had one issue with a piston hitting the valve and that is when the valve spring broke and dropped the valve. I would not go that far on old rings though.

Hellion, you can port with a die grinder just be carefull. DIY - Basic Cylinder Head Porting -Standard Abrasives Motor Sports Leave the milling to a machine shop unless you have a mill with a cutter that can cover the entire width in one pass.

I have nothing for machining stuff, all i have is a dremel

This summer the motor is gonna be swapped... 2.3L turbo. I was gonna swap it this winter but I am gonna get all the parts over this period of time. Cause i wanna be able to complete the swap in like a week at the longest... Cause it will be my DD.

But i was just gonna tweek on this motor a bit and see if I can squeeze a few ponies out of it. But I dont wanna spend alot of money.
