EGR Valve Help!

ok so i put on a blocking plate in front of the intake for the egr valve

and now its showing a check engine light and i can smell that its running richer

is this anything to worry about or is this just what happens?

and also if i just have a safety inspection, where they dont check emissions for my year car in NC, will they check the check engine light?

I'm not sure about your state I know NC is not all that strict. It depends where you take it. Some places might not pass your inspection due to the light being on. I forget how the EGR works but it recycles exhaust gases for emissions. If you just blocked it it may cause it to run richer. My guess is that you might have to look into a superchip, which is what i'm running on my boosted foci.

My EGR is blocked and it is an option to disable the EGR valve through the ECU. So even though yours is blocked it's probably trying to function. I dont know how old your car is so it all depends. A chip would also turn your light off.
I dont know if you can chip this old of a car or not.

ok haha fixed it

wow i feel stupid

ok so after i posted i went back and checked everything that i just did

so i was lookin through all my steps and i realized that i had unplugged the egr
so that i could get some space to loosen the bottom bolt

so i plugged it in and the check engine light went off and its not running rich anymore

shows what you get when you dont double check things lol

So were you saying they don't check emissions in NC because I also have an 89 LX and I'm planning on doing the same to my EGR. I live in Fayetteville right off Fort Bragg military base, if you know where that is. How far are you from here?
