DIS Timing advance question

Hello, I'm working with a 1994 mazda (ford) B2300 2.3 liter, 4 cylinder engine. It also has a DIS, waste spark ignition, and hall effect style crank sensor as the reference. This setup is almost identical to the 89-93 4 cylinder mustangs. I would like to advance the ignition timing (not retard it) and it needs to be adjustable; I am not looking for a replacement emu prom. And before you ask “why?” I'll tell you, its for an alternative energy project I'm doing involving wood gas to power a Mazda truck, (mechanically identical to the Ford Ranger), for more info check out allenergies.net. I've looked into a number of different solutions, including backdating the entire engine management system to the distributer design, a complete standalone system (which was too expensive), and have been advised to do such things as modify the crankshaft pulley (which I am not interested in doing). The MSD DIS-2 system looks promising, but nowhere in the documentation can I find anything about advancing timing. I have been posting this question at multiple forums and have yet to find a suitable solution. Any of your ideas or suggestions regarding this problem would be very helpful and greatly appreciated. Sorry for the run on first post.

well i work with both Ford's 2.3 and Mazda's B2200 Engine

to advance the timing,

theres a 13mm bolt on the distributor holding it down with a little metal bracket, loosen up the bolt so your able to turn it, when you got that, turn the distributor. i cant remember if you turn it to the left or the right, but get a timing light and point it at the dampner pulley and there should be a white notch with a scale of ATDC 30* and BTDC 10* and see which way it goes, it shas to go ATDC, meaning the notch goes down and not up and remember to pull the spout connector when timing it, and when you have a nice spot time'd right, plug the spout connector back in

Well I would join turboford, but there not accepting new members. The main reason I have been avoiding the turbo forums is there all about retarding the timing (which I know how to do), but the N/A people tend to go for timing advance.

If I remember correctly theres not much of a way to adjust the timing on a DIS. The way it would be done i believe it through some kind of programming on the ECU but i could be wrong. Wait for final results from Turbo.

i just asked my father who is one of those 2.3 gods and been a turbo ford guy since they first came out and he says you cant advance the timing unless you make a new bracket and move the crank sensor
