ya i was planning on running a header similar to this one 2.3L / 2.5L Ranger Turbo Manifold

and i've heard mixed opinions on the divided exhaust housing, it would benefit on the six cylinder deisel it came off of, it had a divided manifold. but i havn't seen a divided four banger header, i just see it as restriction..i want maximum flow. so what ever i have to do. i have a little while before i need to do anything with the turbo. so i'll just hold off .

also is anyone aware of a great place to get blow thru carb info, or a bolt on setup would be sickly

gonna need an intake manifold soon, and a carb that can handle some fuel at high PSI

check out turboford.org use search function

alot of serious power has been made using split headers, it will require something custom built
if your looking for maxium flow with that ranger header than get a non split scroll turbo you will still make power but its always less than best do you have any specs on the turbo? is it internally gates?

no i hear people say you can run the divider only if you ran a header, but if your running the stock E6 manifold you would have to cut the divider

and no pics. no camera yet

its not internally gated, and no specs. i'm taking it into a turbo shop downtown to get it checked out, they will check it out and tear it down for free. and i'll ask them for more info on the turbo.

thanks for the help

carb turbo motors look like a mess dont they? lol
keep as much as you can, alot of it is valuable to the right people and nice steel timing cover! its looks steel anyway... better than plastic

i like running a timing cover but alot of people omit it anyway

people say to get rid of the manifold because it is a restriction without heavy porting and if your going thru the trouble of throughing a big turbo on why leave a stock cast iron manifold....

no camera eh?

sigh...i wish!
well actually sort of, i still don't have much for parts ordered..i.e. rods and pistons. i have money for them, but i'm stashin it up to throw down on the rods, pistons, bearings, head, and cam all at once. and i'm definitely getting that esslinger wide timing belt kit too!
since i distinctly remember throwing my timing belt five different times in about two years :p (prolly from revving way beyond its limits, but that needs fixed).

the reason i say sort of, is because i have found a donor car(which is in better working order than my project :p, except its a 5.0 HO 5 spd). to supply such things as the recline-able seats, a cobra body kit, and also the hood w/ scoop (which mine is bent beyond repair thanks to my brother). and some little things like power windows and locks and a newer style guage cluster!

as far as motor work goes, very soon i hope. i am selling one of my trucks to help fund this project, so i don't end up jimmy rigging everything .

hoping to get pictures up soon, i only seem to log on here at work..where i have no pics saved.

you could save money and run stock pistons and rods, they are really durable
forged pistons as long as its a factory turbo motor

so sorry for no updates!!

well i've accumulated:

wiseco 8-1 pistons,
crower 5.5" rods,
and a walsh 2.5 crank!

taking the turbo in today, for its rebuild most likely. they can't tell me what turbo it is over the phone (tags, markings, nothing), and therefore i don't know what i'm dealing with. but today i will, and if it will do what i want it too...oh boy i'm excited for this car haha

i really need to figure out my intake/carb setup soon, and also i haven't really shopped intercoolers yet either!

more update..lots more!
not like this is a hot thread or anything, but the information being stored on a forum is important to me. seems as how i haven't been able to find more than a bit of information in any given one place. so i am making it available to any other carbed non-svo 2.3l tuners.

first off i decided to go with an esslinger aluminum d-port head,
as well as an esslinger turbo cam part#2277.
they built the entire valve train, head, and cam fully assembled for $2430.30..kinda pricey but I've been busy on body work, and i am pleased with their customer support (specifically Cary).

i have also decided on most of my fuel system,
C&S Specialties blow thru carb, newest style NASCAR rules 390 HP casting part #0180507-BT.

I asked Randy at C&S about possibly using a walbro, and he steered me clear of that idea. he recommends Aeromotive for any carbureted applications. specifically Aeromotive A1000, which supports up to 1200hp on blow thru setups, and 1000hp on EFI setups.

also the bypass regulator recommended to me was C&S part#4510, you could really use any bypass style regulator but that one matches the carb well and works with the A1000 pump.

i have also purchased an air-to-water intercooler from frozenboost.com, it is great quality and i'm way excited to try it out! the liquid heat exchanger(front mount) is 24w X 14h X 1.5t, the intercooler itself i chose is recommended for applications 600hp-1200hp, and i also purchased an ice resevior that will drop my intake temps below ambient. very cool setup, includes electric water pump. they also supply intake tubing both metal, and silicone. along with any connectors, pumps, or hoses you'd need.

the ignition i chose is the MSD 6-BTM, which has the built in boost timing knob adjustable in cab. which retards the timing a set number of degrees(anywhere from 0-3 degrees) per pound of boost. it also supports their rev limiter, and launch limiter.

the coil i chose was the HVC-II, i obviously also got the MSD distributor and 8.5 wire set.

the header i got is a stinger style, along with a 38mm wastegate.
i plan on running a 4" turboback exhaust, but maybe will just throw a 3" on it to get it going.

as far as an intake manifold, the only option seems to be custom for a 4 barrel blow thru carb. i am having one made by a guy i met in Salt Lake City. i forget his race companies name..i will post more info on that when i get it though.

i am definitely using a wideband to tune my carb, and will need to toy around with the ignition boost timing controller for maximum power.

i'm sure i've skipped something, but i will be posting again.

any questions, comments, or answers are very welcome
