Cone filter vs. box filter

I was pondering around the idea of converting my box filter system to a cone-style filter. I know it wouldn't be much of anything but which one is better for the car? I currently have a nice K&N cone filter just laying in the garage that I want to install but I can't because I have the stock box setup with a Fram air filter.

? I was told all I needed was the conversion plate that bolts to the MAF sensor that allows me to bolt a cone-style filter on the car.
