My 93 LX pings bad... wtf?

hello, im new to MM. i found this site by looking for some help with my 2.3 mustang. a little while back my car was really running like pooh. so i started by changing the plugs and wires. still ran like pooh. then i changed the o2 sensor. still ran like pooh. i had a friend at good-year look at for me, he told me that my ignition control module was bad. So, i went to ford and bought a brand new one. changed it out and WOW, it feels alot better! i think i could power brake it now... so now its running ok. know im stoked that my car has finally hit puburty and has a lil power. i change out some other oem stuff that needed a lil t.l.c.. i ended up doing the radiator, battery, positive cable for the battery, hoses, belts, valve cover gasket, and the timing belt. i dont like to have a bunch of issues. i like it to be right! now after all that work, it really feels alot quicker (didnt wanna say faster). but i can hear some pinging, but it dosn't do it all the time. even with 93 octane. my car has 134,xxx miles on it. anyone got any suggestions? my car sounds like its popping popcorn.

a timing gun would be better than the human eye.

You have the DIZZY system which means you can not adjust the timing unless you move the crank sensor which is not worth it.

And if your pinging on a complete stock 2.3L you problably have long plugs meaning the pistons problably hit the bottom of the plugs, 93 also makes run like shit, if you go with 87 it will burn more effieciently and create more power in that 2.3

Get a set of STOCK Motorcraft plugs for it, there porven the best plugs for the 2.3's

thanks, i'll try the motorcraft plugs. someone told me that my timing belt could be off by a tooth. if it was hitting the plugs i think it would make noise all the time, right? its the DIS system with 8 plugs.
