2.3 N/A - replaced head now no power

I have a 91 hacthback, it had about 170,000 on original motor. Started noticing loss of water( like very minor/ no external leak), loss of power, every so slightly, but the other day I finished the head off. It had two minor cracks in head and one big one. I figured thats where the power and the water was going, before the head finally cracked mayjorly. Not a problem replaced everything from headgasket up. Now it just don't have any power, its a five spd, no cat, runs well at idle, sounds ok when revved up. put it in gear and its pitiful, seems like its whinning out at three grand, and it wont go over 75mph on the highway. Also hearing a strange sound when loads put on it. Kinda like an exhaust sound, like its being revved past 8000 rpms. Totally stumped on this one, any insight to what the problem might be, also whats the torque specs on the head, I kinda just guessed, might be the problem. Havnt done compression test yet but doing that tomorrow. Trying to make this last to the end of the year, then I'm building a 2.3T to put in it.

and nevermind on the specs, nailed it on the head, lol. I've been building, repairing, and swapping motors for 12 years, but this has really puzzled me, it just don't make any since. It's also running real rich and gas milage would be better in a stroker. It's so rich it burns your eyes at a red light, but like i said before, at idle it sounds just fine, revs just fine, until I put load on it. If I don't figure this out soon, I'll be going v8 or putting it up for sale, hate too but I may have too

the only way to tell the difference is to look at the combustion chamber, if has a heart shaped chamber then its an n/a head resulting for more combustion because of its smaller chamber

if it was a turbo head, it wouldnt have that heart shaped chamber, it has a bigger chamber then the n/a head resulting in less combustion n order to run a turbo

blew another head, i guess its time to retire this old 4 banger and go v8. Was wandering about doing the swap and keeping the 4cyl 5spd for now. What parts will i need to match the v8 to the 4banger tranny?

too much work and just can't find any good donors locally, believe me when i say i've looked, plus building v8 from scratch, starting with new block, and forged rotating assembly, going carbs to get rid of all the wiring, this is going to be a toy so I'm not worried about the gas mileage, my work isn't a mile away now and buying crotch rocket for daily anyways.
