I hit the curb
I slid sideways into the curb during the rain. The collision was on the left side. Now something is off center and the rear right tire and rim have shifted to the right. Whatever connects to the sway arm has shifted, or the sway arm has shifted, because there's a nice clean 1" length of tube showing on the ride side of each of two connections.
What have I destroyed? All the body panels and seams are still even. The right wheel is still centered in the well, it just looks like I put spacers behind it. |

how much does an independant rear suspension cost on a new mustang? I hear about few people doing the upgrade, must be pretty expensive...

roadrunner, depending on how hard you have hit the curb, you could have gotten away with as little as bending a wheel, or hit the curb hard enough to twist the sub frame of the car. I wouldn't drive it around too far like that. If you have a friend that owns a body shop, take it to him, and ask him what he thinks. Depending what's wrong you may get away with calling your insurance company and saying you hit a large pothole. Perhaps a large concrete block fell off a truck, and you couldn't avoid it, and when you ran it over, it fucked up your car. You see what I'm saying ? lol I've played this game before.
And yes, it would be very expensive, rob.

Why would you want to upgrade to IRS...I cant count the number of 03-04 Cobra owners that have swapped to a solid axle. If it hadnt sold, I was going to trade for one...damn thing sold 3 hours before I got to it...

Rob, this is from another post I made elsewhere in this forum:
The latest gen Stangs handle a lot better than previous generation cars, and are pulling .87 lateral G skid pad numbers when the car comes with the 17" wheel & tire combo. That goes up a bit if you order the larger tire combo. The newer cars are wider, longer, and have an almost 50/50 weight distribution. The new rear suspension features a 3-link design with a panhard rod, Constant-Rate coil springs, and Tokico outboard-mounted hydraulic gas-pressurized. This new rear suspension, with the panhard rod, allows stabilization of the differential housing as force is applied, especially under high speed cornering. The body structure of the car is 30% stiffer than the previous generation Mustangs. With a basic suspension upgrade from any reputable manufacturer, the cars actually break into the .90 area on the skid pad, and Steeda has kits out there that will put them over 1 G on the pad. Bottom line, I'm not trying to say this car is something it's not, like a Corvette or a Porsche, but it is a far cry from earlier model Stangs that were mostly straight line performers unless you made your own suspension upgrades. : ) What I'm saying is, you don't really need IRS, and that money would be FAR better off spent on other performance upgrades.
