Tach Adaptor...still not working... anyone use one of these???

I was told to hook it up to the green wire on the #1 coil and I cut the wire and connected everything as shown above... I am hoping someone has installed on of these adaptors and can tell me hoe they got it to work

When you say you cut it, you spliced your tach lead and the two ends of the green you cut back together correct?

autometer wants you to wire into
the positive side of the C.O.P

that would be the RED wire.

make sure you disconnect your NEG
battery terminal, before splicing into
the C.O.P wiring

Emay.... that was the problem... there are two leads from the adaptor and the red one goes to the ignition side and the red/green to the coil...I just put the wire back together for tonight...
I will try the red wire tomorrow

Let's go over what you have:
  • First confirm you have the red wire from the tach adapter going to a switched power source correct?
  • Ground is obvious, is it in a clean prepped location?
  • Gray wire is going to your tach or shift lights green wire?
  • You've tried the green wire fron the tach adapter on both the green and on the red coil wires.

This will work....

Tachometer Signal Wire Installation
for 4.6 engine(s)
Important! Disconnect one of the battery terminals before starting this procedure! Remove the lid off of the power distribution box, located in the front passenger side corner of the engine bay. Remove the thick power wire from the power distribution box, using a 10mm socket. Using the release tabs at the front and rear of the power distribution box, you can simply lift the box up (when releasing those plastic tabs at the front and rear of the box). The green covered harness connector is the last connector towards the rear of the box. To remove this connector to make it easy to work with, use a 7mm socket and unthread the last bolt inside the top of the power distribution. The bolt will not come out, but will release the connector. Remove the green plastic cover, simply by unsnapping the locking tabs. You are looking for the twin red wires coming from port C5. The individual ports are not individually numbered. The letters are cast into the bottom facing edge of the white plastic connector, and the numbers are also cast into the bottom edge of the white plastic connector, going long-ways. These are hard to see, but they are there. Cut the twin red wires about 1 or 2 inches down from the connector. Twist the cut ends from the connector side together and connect to the solid red of the Auto Meter 9117 tachometer adapter. Twist the cut ends at the harness side together, and connect to the red/green of the Auto Meter 9117 tachometer adapter. Carefully route your new adapter wires and mount your 9117 adapter. Re-assemble in the reverse order. Be careful not to pinch your new adapter wires during re-assembly

If you connect the tach adapter to the power wire going to one cylinder, the adapter will will only count 12.5% of the power pulses in the total system. The adapter must be able to count a 8 pulses in a cycle to get an accurate reading. However, if whatever you are feeding the signal has a setting for 1 count = 1 revolution, you can wire it up to one coil pack. Most tachs and two step boxes need to see 8 (or six/four for different engines) counts to count 1 revolution though.
