Hood struts

I'm putting on a Cervini hood which I think weighs about twice as much as the stock hood (apparently 48 vs 27) and as long as the hoods off anyway I was thinking about putting on a strut kit like this

http://www.stangmods.com/SearchResul...rch=hood+strut

Does anyone have any experience with these and a heavier hood

any vendors have a deal on one? thanks

i've got struts on mine, but my hood is the stock GT hood. I had them put on when I got my gears done at a shop, they were only charging $100 total for them. I love em, popped my hood arm off as soon as possible, they support the weight just fine and once you lift the hood up about a foot from locked, they lift it the rest of the way.

Mine has the stock hood, but I also have the Redline struts. They are pretty strong.

I've got the Cervini Ram Air Hood and not only do you need struts but hood pins as well.
There is a lot of movement from the hood while highway driving or at upper speeds.

Also, do not order from StangMods... They sent me a used tuner and then would not take it back.

I have sen several fiberglass hoods have bowing issues with the hood struts both the Redline and the MRT. I was thinking of getting the Steeda Street Cowl hood and wrote to Steeda asking them after seeing this issue on a few friend's cars and Steeda told me do not use struts with their hoods for bowing issue will occur.

That's good to know, but how often does bowing occur? It seems I see a lot of aftermarket hoods with these struts installed.

Also a good idea. This is why I put FRPP hood pins on mine. The hood flapped around at the corners badly, especially if the crosswind was just right.

thanks for the info guys, some of the sites that sell them warn about bowing too, so I think I'll chicken out. My engines mostly stock anyway, if it looked like Emay's then I'd be popping the hood for everyone who walked by whether they wanted to see it or not!
I will get some hood pins though.

Yeah and if you check the stickies at the top of this section, there is info in there on how to install them as well.

And, bear in mind that Emay has a Cervini's product, and the Redline hood struts, and has no bowing issues.
