Bought and 09 V6. How long till you start adding mods to it?

The first thing I did was tint my windows

and now looking a navigation or a carputer.
For performance changes do most stick to stock for awhile or as soon as you have the money?
I was looking at the different CAIs and she some require a tune and some don't. Some with premium fuel and some without. I don't plan on racing or doing anything crazy. But getting close to the accelaration of the GT would be nice.

get your bills out of the way and spend your money on stuff you actually NEED before you spend it on stuff you WANT.

whenever you do start modding, most people start out with (in no particular order) exhaust, gears/t lock, intake, tune, headers, lowering springs, short throw shifter (if you have a standard) and rims/tires.

Modding is really up to the owner. BEFORE you go out and spend gobs of money, think about the future and what you want out of the car. Do you want good performance? Looks? A fair blend of both? Do research before dropping the cash!

But luckily, you've come to the right place.

As for performance, a big starting point is exhaust/gears+tlok/CAI/tune. Very easy, simple, and a great start.

As for visual, wheels, suspension(also performance, but its gives our cars a KILLER stance), tint(which I believe you said you've already done), tail lint tint and such.

Start looking at pictures and finding things you like in a mustang!

Thanks for the suggestions. If I wasn't putting in a new hvac system in my house I could have got a v8

but I am happy with my v6. Anything I add to it will just be more icing on the cake.

Hey don't down on the V6 too much! We have quick little cars that can be made even quicker! If you're not huge into racing you won't have to spend gobs of money to make it satisfiably quick and then take those savings and make it a fantastic looking ride. I intend to make mine quick and efficent by running a few key performance parts but in the end I really intend to set my car apart visually. Each to their own I suppose!
If you're looking into a CAI it'll be pointless to go with one that doesn't require a tune. I got this verified a month or so ago here but in the end it makes sense- why go with a performance part that doesn't change your engine enough to require a retune? Look into JLT air intakes, especially the one that is coupled with the tuner. I think it's a great deal and if you're not going to be looking into any other immediate parts like exhaust or wheels- would be a great first performance mod.

I think a CAI should be the way to go. Will have to decide between my electronic gadgets first or performance. May just have to flip a coin.

Modifying anything on your car will give the stealership a way to say whatever issue is from whatever mod you've done to the car. Just a thought....

i would start putting bolt-ons on it from day one. dont break into the motor until you get some miles on it.

That's a hard choice! I know I delt with that one for a while before I just decided to go for the gray area inbetween visual and performance.

so what your telling me is that you want to lose the power, reliability and driveability of the thing right from the get go.

wait at least a couple thousand miles to put anything on the car.

just be careful with modding a car, make sure you buy all top of the line parts, make sure the exhaust bends are typically the same as the stock geometry.

If added a CAI to about 6 cars at school and dyno'd it, 1 of which was a v6 stang(3.8) and there are simply like no power gains to be had.

just be safe with anything you do to you car

I would do an intake and tuner combo. unlike the 99-04 those new mustangs perk right up with a good tune. especially the Automatics.

Just passed the 500 mile mark in 2 weeks. Normally I drive less than that but have a friend with transmission issues so have been helping out.
Right now I am content with the stock rims. They look nice so will wait till I need new tires before deciding on those. I do like the look of dual exhaust so that may be an option with the CAI.

I remember back when I had the 03 Tiberon v6, it didn't have decent acceleration but on highway was good up to 145

With my v6 I have better acceleration where it counts for normal driving. So I don't need to feel the need for besting my previous speed. If I get closer to what the GT has I think I will be content for atleast a year

If I decide on the carputer first I am looking at this one.

Last September I bought a new v6 stang. The head rests lasted two days before they were removed. The center console lasted two weeks before it was removed. Then the performance mods started. Posi is a must
