aluminum block

is it possible to replace the iron with aluminum in our blocks? i know it is probably impossible, and it would be better to just buy a v8, but is it possible? im thinking weight reduction here

lol no the block is the block. you dont want an aluminum block though. even though it weighs less, it is also weaker and warps. that is the BIGGEST problem with aluminum blocks..they warp.

both of you lol'ed!
damn californians

eleanor i dont think i have to worry about warping the block. gt's are alum... and they have more power

removing backseat could be cool...

the thing about removing the spare, is that i know that i would remove it the day i get a flat. then id be fucked. wheels everntually. my tires are less than 1 year old.

its not a matter of more power or not..aluminum blocks just warp very easily. so if you ever plan to do any mods to your engine you gotta be careful, they warp. We were just talkin bout this today in my engines rebuild class. cuz alot of people wanna use aluminum blocks and run high boost or compression and when they throw a connecting rod, it goes through the block. jus stick wit your CI

ya its just a little annoying with the weight distribution. 55/45% i believe. and the spare tire and rear seats would just lower the rear end weight, making traction worse, and probably affect steering. but it wouldnt reduce that much weight, so it wouldnt have that much neg affect. gas tank's in the back too...

anything is possible if you throw enough money at it.

and Jaryd, i think you're under estimating the strength of an aluminum block.

the 5.4 aluminator engine is full aluminum and we're talking high boost high horsepower engine.

why spend money on an aluminum engine for weight reduction while its much cheaper to go on a diet.

lol, true but from my experience at the track it looks easier for the car to lose weight than the driver.

Sorry i was wrong, the aluminator is the 4.6.

but if ford and other high performance auto makers are switching to aluminum i think it might be trust worthy.

Ford Racing Performance Parts [M-6007-A46SC*]

I see what you're saying on the warping cause if you weld aluminum you're gonna warp it no matter what. but we're talking about a block not sheet metal.

steeda makes an aluminum radiator support. that might help if your looking to even out the weight distribution
