Gears -don't shoot me-

Okay, another instance where I can find a million threads on what I’m looking at but I just have to start a new one because none of them give me an answer.

From what I know and have read I want:
- 4.10 gears
- T-lok
- Oil
- Tuner
What I need to know is, should I buy these things separate? I don’t know if certain brands are better than others; I’m new to gears, but separately it would cost a bit under 1000, it looks like.

On AM I saw a gear kit that comes with gears, oil, and tuner for half of that (not including the extra options).

Which is better to go with? And if my 2007 is all stock still, are there any other things I'd need to add first?

wheres my dang gun!!!..

okay honestly...
Gears - Motive and FRPP is the same thing... so either will work but FRPP dont make 7.5 gears anymore. anyways there both good
Tlok - you can go with a basic FRPP one or go with detroit trutrac which will hold alot more than the FRPP one..
Gear Oil you will need 3 quartz (royal purple i suggest)
Tuner SCT XCAL 3 or Livewire if you have the extra cash.
Not needed but you should try and pick up a friction modifier.its like 10$

and lastly !!!! what took you so long to start modding...

Alright, thanks for all that. This isn’t really my first mod. I got some cheaper exterior things (shorty antenna, taillight trim, sequential taillights) while deciding what more expensive things I wanted and in what order. By the end of this week I’ll be able to afford a nice dual exhaust, which I’m looking forward to.

The gears are what I’m doing next. I need an idea on how much, ‘cause I’m hoping that with my graduation next month I may be able to smooth talk my way into some gifts that get me outta buying stuff myself.

Only question now is, is the Livewire really worth the extra money? It would put me dangerously low on cash so spend, but if it’s worth it I’d rather get the better one.

Same with the t-lok. I'd rather get the better one, do you know where I could get it cheapest? Looks like around 420-450 is the cheap end, I am correct?

no it does not better the tune or anything with your car.. getting the livewire is just for looks and the little fun extra things on it. DONT GET gears for your graduation gift... you should get something you can keep forever not something your gonna lose when you decide to get a v8 i got my FRPP tlok for 200-250.the detroit trutrac is better but isnt needed.

find yourself an OEM GT 8.8 31 spline rear end with 3.31 gears (500-700) then you dont have to scrounge all over the place to find stuff for your rear end. Buy Ford Racing Parts! has 3.51; 3.73 and 4.10 for 150 a piece.

honestly you dont even really need the xcal 3, considering you're not going to be doing much but loading the tune file to your car and maybe adjusting your Idle and rev limiters thats it.

the xcal2 are cheaper right now, get that a canned tune for your intake (if your intake will throw codes) then find a tuner to get a custom tune for your needs and wants.

i got my frpp tlok for 180, but with shipping i think it was 200. you should also get a cai, helps keep some of the mpg's that you lose with gears. udp's are cheap and help mpg's also

Thanks for the extra help, guys.

Youngin, I'll probably have this car for a good while, but what would you suggest instead of gears?

I'll definitely be getting a CAI and new TB in the future, but that's something I can get on my own rather easily. I want something that will give me more power, though.

nothing will give you more power than gears... its like getting 60hp but your not.. your power is just being transfered faster and you will lose your top speed but you will get there faster.. you actually dont need a new TB unless you actually need more air lets say like a blower or a hair dryer.. honestly my favorite basic bolt on is exhaust..

Okay, so if I continue on that path I'll go with the gears.

But something new just hit me. I was talking with my dad; He's got a '69 goat in the shop right now and we went to check on it today. That thing(with his mechanic buddy's help) runs around 400 hp.

I was thinking would it make sense just to save up for a PowerHouse? I heard that's supposed to get you up pretty close there in hp.

if you are going for 400 with your 6, it would be easier to get a gt
