Start engine button?
They look cool....I don't know much about them but what keeps someone from busting out a window and pressing it?

Most of the time you need to have the key in the ignition, or the expensive ones just within so many feet of the car. It is quite easy to set it up without the key but I would not advise it for obvious reasons.

I never meant the install was easy, but it's wasy to keep from needing a key. And I would not advise a keeless push start to keep people from steeling you car? o.0?

Well, this isn't any normal kit. Every "kit" will have to be made custom pretty much for each person. The reason is because some people may want different style/colors of switches, or different positions of switches, different ways to keep the setup secure yet easy to work, and so on.
Pretty much when i make a kit i'll have to talk to the person buying and find out exactly how they want it to work then build it based on that

![]() Since you have a s197 you'll have to help me out a bit so i can make some measurements on making a kit. If you can help me out by getting measurements and whatnot i'll give you a BIG discount on the kit. Basically you would just pay for parts and a little bit for shipping/assembly and thats it. Do you have a multimeter/voltmeter....just anything used to check voltages? |

alright good. Hopefully ford didn't change the ignition wiring. If they did we'll figure it out.
First off you need to choose what switches you want to use in your setup and just any general idea on what you want to be the final result. You can look online for the switches and give me the part #'s for them. After you get the switches chosen let me know so we can work on planning everything out (on aim of course )

was just looking around and saw it on MM
Ford Racing Push Start Ignition Button (2005+) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping! Idk... lol it just kinda seems like I am clueless with these things but it kinda seems like the Staples "easy button" for stealing a car.

Was lookin around and noticed this post. Commander, thats a nice setup you made, and I would love to make my ignition like that, prob is you have no security, som1 can easily break in and steal the car, is there a way to do that but require like a transmitter or somethin? I want to make a setup like yours but with alittle anti-theft security option

All the kit does, is eliminates the actual turning of the key to the start position. Turn the key to the run position then press the button. I've seen the kits I believe from AM or MossMuscle.com with install instructions. They look pretty cool.

Adding the start engine button does NOT make the car any easier to steal.
In order to steal a car w/out the button, one would have to break into the car, disable the wheel lock, disable the PATS system, and turn the ignition to the start position. In order to steal a car w/ the button, one would have to break into the car, disable the wheel lock, disable the PATS system, turn the ignition to the run position, and press the button. The only difference is that instead of turning the ignition to "start" one must only turn it to "run" and then press the button.

Here is an idea. This will probably be an expensive one tho, as I dont know an alternative. For those who have automatic transmissions, get that push button ignition installed that the dealership offers, the one that comes with a remote which you gotta have near the car for the car to start. Then if you want, for fun, take two switches and wire em to that ignition. Personally if I would get that button installed, id still wire two switches like the guy in the video above, 1 to turn it on and 1 to start it. Id totally have fun with that.

My system is still incredibly hard to get by unless you know EXACTLY how its wired. I have a hidden switch....and its not physically possible to even touch the switch as its mounted very deep into the dash. Lets just say you have to know where its location is and how to trip it even though you can't physically touch it
