I have heard of it, and I have discussed it many times. An explorer guy swapped out his 2v heads for 4v and gained 100 hp, I think he got a new cam as well. It was very, very impressive. I'll look for the thread.

I know of no Ford DOHC V6s that are similar enough to swap heads with the 4.0 (*maybe* the 3.7L, but I doubt it), so what you're looking at doing is something along the lines of the Volvo DOHC head swap for 2.3L motors.

You'd need to find another motor with similar bore and cylinder spacing that has similar enough cooling passages and mounting, and then you'd be looking at a custom intake manifold, if not custom exhaust manifolds as well.

isnt my car an SOHC?

so basically, it would be easier to just do a full engine swap? ...because that is basically what i would be doing anyway with a full hci swap.

shit it would be easier to just get a GT

Yes, your car is SOHC. Why do you ask?

4v is almost always in a DOHC configuration. There are a few counterexamples to that (There's a SOHC 4v Suzuki motor, and the 6.0 powerstroke is a 4v pushrod), as well as a few 2v DOHC motors (Toyota 5M-GE used in the Mk II Supras and early 80s Cressidas), but for the most part 4v == DOHC.

i dont think (then again the only v6s i have experience with is the 3.8 pushrod) ford only makes 2v ohc v6s

To be honest, I've NEVER seen an aftermarket head that had a different valve configuration than anything that was offered from the factory.

I'm not exactly sure why that is, but I'd assume it'd be the limited customer base that would want to do that - not only would you buy that company's head, but you'd be stuck with their cam(s), valves, valvesprings, and likely it wouldn't be able to use the factory intake and exhaust, roping you into their stuff there, as well.

Think of the expense of that, versus just going to a power-adder. If you were to buy a brand new kenne bell, you'd see what, another 50% power at the ground? How much power would converting your 2v SOHC to a 3v get you?

Also consider that the only companies in the world that will still sell you a pushrod or SOHC motor are Ford, GM, and Dodge. Every other automotive gasoline motor in the world is DOHC (and from all the rumors, Ford will be making DOHC exclusively as of next year). This means the only people who COULD use an aftermarket 3 or 4 valve head are also the least likely to make that kind of upgrade.

I do apologize, I'm not trying to shoot you down on this idea. I think for what you want, you're gonna be better off waiting 'til the '11s come out, and seeing how much effort it is to swap in the new 3.7L, OR just going supercharged. I think a centrifugal would give you the same high-end power gain that going 4v would, only much more of it.

I understand what you're saying. And with the 6, I really wouldnt be getting much out of a valve increase. FI would be less complicated than a full hci change and every thing else that would have to be done.

What is Ford coming out with in '11? Is this 3.7 going to be the turbo v6?

The 3.7 is going to be a DOHC engine with direct injection with hp ratings in the upper 300's if I'm not mistaken. Non FI though.
