I need to beat the camaro....
hey guys I've been around here a little while now, I read pretty much every thread. Here is my dilemma my best friends cousin has this really snotty looking 1995 z28 Camaro. When I first got my mustang he was nice for a few weeks told me the car looked great but then after he heard me talking to my buddy about getting dual exhausts and a CAI put on went off. He started laughing at me telling me my v6 ain't shit, and it could never take his all-mighty shit box chevy.(not that chevys suck) and at first I just accepted. He keeps bringing it up and won't drop, it's to the point where I just won't go to my buddys house. I need to beat this guy. I don't know what his had done to it, from what I hear from it, it at least had some exhaust work done to it, and maybe a CAI, nothing massive.
Well I have assembled a shopping list for this adventure, thus far I plan on the following: Steeda Cold Air Intake and SCT SF3 Custom Tuner Combo - $576 Pypes 409 Stainless Steel V6 Dual Pipe Conversion Kit - $450 Pypes Polished 304 Stainless Steel Shorty Headers - $290 BBK 70mm Throttle Body - $290 Ford Racing 8.8 in 31 Spline Traction - LOK Limited Slip Differential w/ Carbon Discs - $320 Ford Racing Gears - FRPP 4.10 Gears (8.8in) -$165 Motive Bearing Kit (8.8in) - $75 for a grand total of $2,166 USD before shipping taxes. I would then plan on grabbing a SC or possibly a Turbo if I find a deal on one. I think the above would be a good base, because not only would it give me some preformance gains, I think it would set up my car for when I want to add some F/I and maybe Nitro. any opinions on the tentative setup? potential how much hp/torque would I be pushing? any other items I should consider? anything I should swap out? btw my car is 2010 v6 auto coupe base. |

Ok your cousin's car has a 5.7s 0to60 and a 14.2s 1/4. But that was back in 1995. Probably isn't quite that anymore, even if he can drive.
The TB is not going to do anything for you until you get FI, and even with those other mods, your rwhp/tq won't even be at the advertised hp/tq levels. But those 4.10's will help a lot. You should look into an aluminum driveshaft and control arms. With some nice lower control arms and an upper CA, and a DS and those other mods you've mentioned, you will more that likely beat him. Give this site a look: http://www.supersixmotorsports.com/p...1HeadsCams.pdf Look at this thread for an idea of what you need to be at the level you want: http://www.moddedmustangs.com/forums...-4-0l-v6s.html |

well the 8.8 gears won't help you unless you have the 8.8 rear axle, which the V6's dont, we have the 7.5. But if you get the Ford racing 7.5" T loc and 4.10's you'll be set the same.

yea what he said, you have a 7.5", plus if you really do plan on going F/I in the future don't get 4.10's, go with 3.73's.

in order to take him you are going to need that stuff and a little more. you can get an 8.8 gt new takeoff rear end with the gears you want. you will also need the underdrive pulley, screamin deamon coils with the msd super conductor wires and fusion plugs. as far as the tb, i would get it. i did feel a difference with mine and it helped enhance the other mods. i would also get the gt 500 fuel pump upgrade and a jet maf sencor. as far as the headers, i would get a cheep set off ebay for about $120. and definately get an aluminum drive shaft. don't forget about your hole shot. you will need tubular upper and lower rear control arms and a swar bar wouldn't hurt. with all these mods and the ones on your list you should be able to take him. i have all these mods and a few more and i can take a 95 z28 with no problem as long as he is pretty close to stock. the tune will make a big difference. so make sure you get it right. it's a shame ya'll don't live closer, i would say send him my way. good luck!

or sell your car and buy an older Fox Body and drop 5 k into it.
Your friends camaro will look like a honda compared to a fox with 5k of engine work done to it.

hey torch, i have done alot of mods to my v6, when people told me it wouldn't make a difference, i did it anyways. i want you to know, i raced a 2002 trans am ws6 with a hypertech canned tune, upgraded exhaust, upgraded ram air. we hit it at 30mph and took it to about 120mph. we ran twice and we were even both times. people tell me i'm fullof dung, i was there, i know what happened. if you have the right tunes and mods you can shut down a 95 z28. if you like you can contact me and i can talk you through the mods and tune to take out a lt1. longalan2@aol.com

You know you could just trade in your stang for a 1998+ trans am with an ls1. Then you can laugh at his POS lt1 with its shittily placed distributor that's out in the open for splashes of water from puddles to get on and destroy. Then you can get bolt ons and a cam and exhaust for your ls1 trans am and have a 400 rwhp, 12 second car that will allow you laugh at him even more, all assuming that your 2010 stang still holds about $15K of value for you to trade in for a decent trans am.

i have my mods listed in the profile. and that trans am is not the only ls1 i have taken. i will be the first to admit that the ls1 is a stout motor, but it is not "god" it can be taken by a v6. around here in splendora, my best competition is from a 97 camaro with the lt1. if that z-28 is stock you can take him with my list of mods. and you might want to learn how to manually shift your auto. if done right, it can also help. it's all in the wrist snap.

I just pulled out the stuff that will actually make it faster, and made it easier for us old guys to read:
Don't get me wrong, I don't doubt it's significantly faster that it was stock, and I can see you taking on stock 2v GTs with it; but if you're beating LS1s they either aren't racing you, or you're leaving out something fairly major from that list (like nitrous). Do you have some 1/4 slips to back up your claims?
