door guards

The Dealer installed side door guards, are they just stuck on with tape, or fastened to the door? I want to remove mine and want to know what i am looking at...

I have those also. I've been told they are simply stuck on with tape/glue.

I'm worried that there may be discoloration behind them though, so I have never taken them off.

I have looked into getting some door guards before and I was told that they were simply taped on. I chose not to get them installed because I didn't want to tape anything on that could potentially damage the paint. But if you don't plan on taking them off anytime soon, I don't see a problem.

the longer they sit, the better chance for discoloration.. sooner is better than later if u want them off

Just a tip.... use a heat gun or good hairdryer when taking it off... easier, leaves less adhesive behind, and whats left behind is easier to get off

Mine came with them. I'm assuming they were on for a while (years). They are attached by what looks like a double sided tape. Was very easy for me to remove and looks 100x better. No discoloration and once removed, just left behind a sticky substance that was easily taken off by a goo-gone type of product.

You don't really notice how bad they look until you take them off

Excellent to hear! What year was the car, and when did you take them off?

It's an 05, took them off ~4 months ago, right before winter. After I took removed them and got the sticky stuff fully off, I washed and waxed the entire car, with special detail to the doors. Looks great now.
Just be careful when taking them off, don't yank them off and risk pulling any paint/clear coat off

Well in that case i'm glad that I never got them put on mine. I guess I didn't really think about the looks as much as I should have because I was more concerned about the garage at work, the spaces are too tight and there are soo many pillars in the way. Good to know. Thanks.

What I did was left the car in the sun on a warm day, and slowly started at one end, peeling it off. I also used like a plastic Acme card to gently pry and remove the tape. If you take your time it should be very easy

Ok, so went and pulled them,
First off the "foam tape" is shit, a credit card was like a hot knife through it.
There was some black discoloration underneath, however some elbow grease and a claybar fixed it.

Pics incoming...
