Should I Break in my New Car's Engine?

2 days ago I bought a 07 Coupe V6. The dealer saids no just drive it..drive it hard if I wish and don't worry if the engine is cold.
But on a long distance drive on the freeway etc very the speed till the 1st oil change at 5000 miles...(wait till 5000 on a new car engine?)

Is this correct? On old cars (I've had all 70's cars) I had to break in a rebuilt motor. I know times have changed.

So what do you people do?

I just dont want to hurt my new Stang!

Thanks!

break it in for sure... don't go over 3k rpms if you can help if for the first 500 miles, then drive it nice but in the full range till your first oil change... after that drive it how you want... but remember you love your car it will love you

I went 1k but thats just me. Nows a good time to switch over to full synthetic. A lot of ppl here use Royal Purple. Your car will love you for it.

What is there to break in? They use Moly rings and they seat themselves with in 10 mins of the car being fired up.

Besides, if you do break anything its under warrenty.

i broke mine in on teh dyno, i ran 30 minutes before we started thrashing on it. anyways you shouldnt have a problem with getting on it after you get. they come allready brokin in nowadays, still very your speed, and go through as many heat cycles as you can. i would change the oil after the first 1000 miles then eeveyr 3-4 after that/

Newer engines don't require elaborate breakin periods. But you shouldn't beat on an engine if it's cold. Bring'em up to operating temp before thrashing them. Especialy if there are any forged componates.

read your manual. drive it however you want. just don't take it on long trips with a constant speed. i'm now at 25000 miles and haven't had any problems. get my oil changed every 5000 miles without fail. it's amazing what you can find out if you read the book that comes with your new car.....lol

yeah...newer engines have no extensive break in periods. Just vary your highway speeds to let the piston rings seat properly for the 1st 1,000 miles.

There is no break in on a new engine, If it blows up then it wasnt built right in the first place. All tolerances was properly set at factory, or any engine builder for that matter, Steel rings are as seated as they can get once it hits operating temperature. Drive it like your gonna drive it from the start. I promise the guy that PDI'ed your car at the dealer ship did. It's part of the PDI.
