gear whine
i just got my gears installed. ive had them for about 2 months.
the first thing that pissed me off was that it took from 9am to 6pm for the install. and then i got in and i knew it wasnt right. ya the 3.73's feel good with tlok but the whine is bad. the guy at the shop said it was minimal, but not to me. richmond gears (supposedly the same as frpp b/c its basically the same company) and ford tlok. im going to take it back to the shop, but is there anything that can be done without buying new gears? |

i just got back from some more testing and tuning with my xcal, and its really not that bad. with heat and radio on, you cant hear it. i was just freaking out earlier b/c i had the windows down, no heat or radio, and it was a new noise. it may settle down after a little breaking in, and it has synthetic oil.
wow the gears really pick things up. i mean damn thats definately my best mod |

question: can i wash off my old gears with plain water, maybe soap? i want to store them, but they are greasy. and now that its cold, my outside hoses are turned off, so im thinking i have to do it in the bath tub. is that bad to do?

you kinda want to keep an oily film on the gears or they may start to rust.Richmond gears have a tendency to whine a little but they are not the same as FRPP gears Motive is.there has been a few complaints of motive gears whining but i had a set in my car and
they hardly made a sound.

it has to do with the way the company machines the gears and how they are setup on the install too.Its gotta have a good pattern on the gears to be quiet.if it has a good pattern and still whines a little bit that probably due to the machining process

From what I hear, Richmonds whine. FRPP are the best for no noise.
