Gear whine?

I have had my new gears now for a few months and thought they was quite until I took my off road h pipe off and put the stock one back on. Now I hear a slight whine. I bet more people have gear whine and just don't notice it because of their loud exhaust.

When do the gears whine?
Whine on acceleration that mellows out when the axle is no longer under load is usually due to improper gear set up or worn ring and pinion gears.
Deceleration whine is usually attributed to the pinion bearing. Either bad preload or a bad bearing itself. Deceleration whine almost never has to do with the ring and pinion gears themselves.
Whine that starts after the vehicle is moving and is steady across all MPH ranges \ torque loads can be bad or old carrier bearings.

There are a bundle of other potential causes but these are the most likely culprits. Depending on where the whine is happening it could become more than just an aesthetic problem. If ignored they can cause a major failure in the ring and pinion and leave you sad on the side of the road, or worse.

I have Pro5.0 3.90s on my Auto and they whine. FRPP Gears with the part# that ends in "A" are less likely to whine.

A lot of people say that it is all about the install, but I do not believe this is true. I think it is partly due to the Gears manufacturer and the installer. It is not easy to get the gears perfectly aligned. If you didn't want gear whine then get ready to spend a lot of money on oil and installation costs. Because trial and error would be the only way to reduce or get rid of gear whine.

Mine is pretty loud. It doesnt bother me that much though. I am good at tuning out sounds. I also blast the radio . I have FRPP 3.73 gears, install kit and oil in my garage waiting for install. At the same time I will be doing a Detroit True Trac. I talked to Techco and they want $700 for the install, but I know they will do an awesome job. Most of them are exSaleen workers.

I didnt want 4.10s on my auto daily driver and the next gear down from FRPP is the 3.73. I will eventually supercharge anyways.

I drive to much freeway. At 80 mph I am at 3000 rpms. I wouldn't want that to be any higher. If I didn't drive so much on the freeway then yea I would get 4.10s for sure.
